Public SectorCivil servants have the right to extended leave without wages fora maximum of 2 years, when it comes to the upbringing of thechild. The leave is compulsory for the Service.The working timetable of the servant is reduced for 2 hours perworking day, provided he/she has children under 2 years of ageand for 1 hour provided he/she has children from 2 to 4 years of age. An alternative is a leave of 9 months with full wages for
upbringing of a child.
Private sectorAfter the employee has completed one year with a particular
employer that employ at least 50 persons and of the other parentis working, the employee has the right to special leave for theupbringing of the child up to the age of 3.5 years of age. It is aspecial leave without wages during which the holder retainshis/her insurance by paying by himself/herself the complete
amount of the insurance contribution.
