TRANSCRIPT
After many years in design and development, Elan is proud to announce the launch of a “New
Concept in Yacht Design”. The GT Series will take the very best design and construction
techniques from Elan’s award winning performance yachts, harmonising this with the benefits
of larger deck saloon yachts, to produce a truly elegant sporty cruising yacht.
Elan Yachts, some of the most competitive sailing yachts available today, benefiting from
“Humphreys Yacht Design” VOLVO OCEAN RACE 70 yachts designs. Elan inherits many
features from these ultimate racing machines such as twin rudders, T-shaped performance
keel, chined hull for minimum drag and the latest 3D VAIL infusion technology. With state of
the art deck equipment positioned for the optimum performance, ease of handling and a fine
tuned sail plan, every ELAN YACHT offers a superb sailing.
This comfortable cruising range of yachts will have the pace to “swallow up” the miles at sea,
whilst offering a safe and easy to handle yacht for the shorthanded crew.
The GT series will offer a premium lifestyle on a higher volume yacht, based on the Elan award winning performance
hulls, with a deck saloon and enhanced cockpit to give a truly luxurious performance cruiser.
TRUE PERFORMANCE CRUISINGWith hulls from Elan performance range and the addition of deck saloon style living.
DEDICATED CRUISING INTERIORRadical new interior layout resulting in a far more comfortable luxurious cruising yacht.
EASE OF HANDLINGThe GT5 is designed with a short-handed crew in mind, making it easy for a crew of two to handle the yacht easily.
The halyards and sheeting are controlled from the helmsman’s position, which keeps the cockpit clean of all lines,
ensuring the utmost in comfort and safety on-board.

Over a twenty year period of continual development with Elan Marine we have always striven for easy performance as a core value. ‘Easy’ as in easy to achieve and easy on stress; ‘performance’ not just as in pure speed but also as applied in qualitative measure of handling characteristics and sea kindliness; ‘easy performance’ as when the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.
At one end of this the Elan range has consistently demonstrated a race winning potential while looking after the cruising alter ego of the owner; at the other end the Impression range has added to this sailing DNA a level of comfort and internal volume that bears excellent comparison with other pure cruising ranges.
With the new GT range the recipe comes from essentially the same ingredients but the mix is skewed a little more towards indulgent cruising, with a hull and appendage platform derived from the Elan performance range but an entirely new deck and interior layout that is hard to describe without using the word prestige.
The Elan Design Team have worked long and hard on this particular direction in the product range, and judging from both its potential and reception the new GT5 heralds what is likely to be a strong new range under the Elan umbrella. The yacht is laid out for easy short-handed operation, and much emphasis has been placed on the interface between exterior and interior, with the saloon immediately adjacent to the cockpit. This arrangement gives the saloon the maximum spatial benefit by making best use of the beam, with the galley forward of the saloon to work the space very well. It’s an arrangement that was developed for the highly successful Impression 50 and for many will be a more logical configuration than the more conventional arrangement of cockpit-galley-saloon.
For the sailing purists the Elan GT5 model should represent a gratifying performance for her class, with excellent control even when pressed, delivered by the well proven twin-rudder system. The GT5 should be a forgiving, rewarding yacht that will appeal particularly to the private owner who appreciates some distinction from the main body of the fleet.

Due to the wider and flatter hull design twin rudders are more efficient then a single
rudder, providing exceptional control and reducing the tendency to broach. The
yacht does not stall easily, her pitching moment is reduced and her directional
control is superb!

Yacht Design hull shape with more radius in underwater hull sections aft are better bal-
anced with fuller forward sections to increase beam without increasing drag.

Chined hull helps with the yacht’s tracking ability upwind and clean off the wake, giving
the yacht improved top speed and control downwind. When heeled ideally the yacht
reaches an optimum underwater hull shape with a small wetted surface for minimum
drag. Chines also prevent broaching because they work as long skegs. Matching the
maximum beam with the optimum underwater hull shape leads to the design of a
chined hull.

The launch of the new GT Series begisn with the GT5 which is based on the award winning Elan E5 hull. This yacht
brings the true meaning of Gran Turismo to the yachting world, a Performance Grand Touring Yacht. She has all her
control lines led aft for the helmsmen to handle without even moving forward, leaving a clear and uncluttered compan-
ion way, ensuring easy handling for shorthanded sailing. The cockpit is a space for entertaining and relaxing with its
dual table system, option of convertible sun bed and ample storage. The deck is clear and easy to move around on,
continuing the commitment to a safe and easy to handle cruising yacht. The sleek lines that you have come to expect
from Elan, give this yacht the final overall appearance that will “turn heads” in every port you visit.
