We were originally contacted by FisherGerman who advised us that they had aclient who had visited a number of

grainstores in the area, in particular one which wehad constructed for Parkers @ Ridlington capacity3000 tons in 2006.

Having arranged an appointment to see bothparties on 20th July 2010 it was clear that GeorgeNeale had already decided on what he wanted andafter discussing crop rotation and tonnage it wasagreed that we would provide some detaileddrawings using the Ridlington store as a startingpoint but adding on one additional bay to give anapproximate storage of 3690 tons split into 2 no.sections of 1025 tons each and the other two 820tons.

We designed a store nominally 28m span x 9 no.bays (each 6096) long x 6m to eaves with 15° pitch. The building would be divided into 4 no. separatecompartments ie 4 no./5 no. bays with a centraltunnel to allow storage @ 3.6m high with fans at eachend housed within a fan house connected to themain building which was nominally 8065mm long x5000mm wide x 4500mm to eaves.

The building would be constructed using 6” profilefibre cement cladding with all verticals in Olive Greenplastic coated steel cladding. All exterior and dividingsupporting walls would be concrete panels andsteelwork would all be galvanised.

Inside the building would be a central main steel airtunnel protruding into the fan houses with a sideaccess door and a staircase platform to walkwayheight through a separate door into the main grainstore.

A timber floor was laid on timber bearers with amixture of softwood and hardwood boards.

allowing to dry through 12’ storage using ambientair. We also provided all necessary control panels forthe fan units, roller doors, extraction fan units andall electrical wiring.

We constructed all outdoor concrete aprons, witha base for the Griffiths Elder weighbridge purchaseddirectly by the client and all necessary electric, gasand drainage pipes as required.

Following acceptance of our design we had ameeting to decide on the exact location of thebuilding on a new green field site on the outskirts ofthe village near an existing beet pad.

Staked outThe site was staked out, levels taken with anallowance made for traffic flow, and positionscalculated for the weighbridge and control roomwith an area for the gas tanks and sub station forthe incoming electrical supply.

Initially we had to address the problem of noelectrical supply available on the new site. Thesimilar Ridlington project ran on generatorshowever George Neale felt that he would prefer aproper sub station for the site and this was noted.

A general layout drawing and site plan was

prepared and after further discussions and theclients acceptance of our proposals it was agreedthat we would provide a full turnkey quotationbased on our specifications.

WorkshopOur client placed the order with us on 26th April2011 for completion by 1st September 2012.

Whilst the contract was underway the clientadvised us that he proposed to erect a further lean-to on one side of our building as a workshop toensure that our works made allowance for this.

Before we had completed the grain store wediscussed with our client Phase 2 which was toconstruct a lean-to to one side for use as a workshopincluding washdown facilities and accommodationfor chemicals/toilet etc.

The lean to was designed to have plastic coveredsheeting to floor level to enable it to blend into thecountryside however we placed concrete wall panelsinside for security. Where the roller doors werepositioned we also supplied and fitted steel barriergates for protection/security. A Spel tank was placedunderground inside the building with an Aco drainabove to enable machinery to be washed down.

Support CJ Nealefor nearly 30 years

Griffith Elder weighbridges have been avalued part of C J Neale Ltd farmingoperations at Kneeton for nearly 30 years.

The association started back in 1984 when JeffNeale purchased though Harris of Tuxford Ltd asingle axle weighbridge with dynamic weighingcapability. This weighbridge design was a worldfirst to use load cell technology for dynamicweighing and coupled with solid built steelwork and electronics has given 29 years ofreliable service, up to the construction of theirnew 15 metre weighbridge in 2012.

The new 50 tonne weighbridge is a modulardesign 15.3m x 3m pit mounted weighbridgeusing OIML approved load cells and indicator.Attached to the indicator is a laptop which isrunning the Griffith Elder designed AgriculturalSoftware package. The modular design meansthat the heaviest single section weighs only2,250 kgs and is easily lifted out for routinemaintenance.

The best feature of the installation is the easein which the weighbridge tickets are populated, providing accurate and consistent data whichcan be used to show reports on yield per field, moisture content per crop type before and afterdrying, stock control on crops in and out ofstore, vehicle registrations and tare weights andmerchant details on sales etc. The features areextensive and the reporting capabilities are userdefined making it a very flexible and powerfultool for the modern farm operation. Reports canbe exported in spreadsheet format for use inother farm software or can easily be sent byemail.

We also supplied a Spel tank outside to take thesewage and water from the internal container unit.

The D&H Group supplied the water and dieseltanks, George Neale said ‘’the original enquiry forthe diesel tank came about at the LAMMA event’’ –having initially approached D&H Group he foundthey had exactly what he required and subsequentlyordered a 10,000 litre water tank as well as thediesel tank . Following 1st class customer service thetank arrived on time. George stated, “D&H Groupwere very easy to work with and offered anexcellent product range”.

Planning permission for the additional works wasgiven for 25th May 2012 and works commenced 1stOctober 2012.

Mains loading calculationsThe project at Kneeton for Mr Neale required a 500 ampsupply fed from its own substation to supply the 4 x 33kw fans4 x 27kw fans and general power. This supply came from theACB and supplied the 630 amp power board fitted in the firstfan house. A sub supply was then installed for the second fanhouse to operate the fans and general local power.

British StandardsAll work completed is in compliance with current BritishStandards to BS7671 17 th edition wiring regulations. Thisstandard has a specific section on agricultural installationssection 705.

A.C.C.S. RequirementTryac also comply with the A.C.C.S. standards by providingpoly covers for light fittings installed that are placed overstored crop for the prevention of broken glass from fallinginto the crop and contaminating the crop.

Adjusting thetunnel lateralsTo adjust how much air flow youhave through the crop an operatorhas to adjust the laterals inside thetunnel, as this is a darkenvironment. So the allowance oflights which only turn on when an

emergency stop is pressed and which this button also preventsthe fans from running when the operator is inside the airtunnel.

Control PanelsTryac also produce specialist controlpanels as specified by the customer,as on this project they were used onthe extraction fans and theautomatic roller door for the maindrying fans air intake.

Generallighting The lighting project forthis installation isprovided by ten 250watt metal halide floodlights with poly carbcovers.

Tryac have been working in partnership with Concept Grainfor a number of years providing services from electricaldesign, Installation work, generator and mains supplyupgrades and loading calculations for existing sites.
