The Comtec

Brief

We know for some agencies, the thought of working on an international marketing project can be both exciting and daunting. But the extensive experience we’ve had with creative agencies has allowed us to refine our support to enable you to get on with your job.

We advise and provide solutions on how your campaign messaging will be received in new cultures and languages, but to help us, we need to immerse ourselves in your client’s brand including: tone of voice, style guides, current brand positioning, guidelines on brand names, marketing objectives, desired response from target market and deadlines. Existing materials, such as the website, training manuals and brochures, are also really handy!

Adding more strings to your creative bow

Why translate?• Only 6% of the world’s population speaks English as a first language• Web users are four times more likely to buy from a website in their own language• Over 100 million people access the Internet in a language other than English

Transcreation – adaptation of creative work into another language English copywriters are great for writing copy in English, in all tones of voice - it’s what they get paid to do (like the one who’s writing this). But we use specialist translation copywriters who understand creative thinking and not only translate your copy, but add creative value and sector insights needed to engage new markets.

By using a native speaker based in the country itself, we’re able to provide a number of alternatives with back translations and commentary so your client can make the final decision.

Linguists with knowledge of your client’s sectorAs with any brief, you put the right team together. So you’ll understand why we hand pick the right translation team and dedicated project manager for each project from the start – to get the best results.

Take for instance the case of one of our Automotive clients. We established a translation team which included sector specific knowledge and expertise on technical terminology together with experience in handling high-level marketing copy. This ensured copy communicated the key marketing messages with the correct technical language.

Collaboration with your client’s foreign market teams Input from the local market contact can be crucial for some translation projects. Most likely to be the in-country Marketing Manager, they will bring valuable insights on the market as well as cultural characteristics, consumer behavior and perception of the brand. This is a must for fully localised communications.

Our experience in handling the feedback process together with a number of on-line review tools help make the project easier and smoother. Feedback is not only received quickly, but has the quality of detail to ensure there is minimum to-ing and fro-ing, therefore avoiding any bottle-necks.

“Comtec provide us with a great translation service. Having the one point of contact ensures a

smooth and responsive relationship. We are confident that they understand the creative nature of our industry and deliver a great transcreation service”

Translation firefightersThere will always be small issues to tackle in major translation projects, but from our experience there are two particular challenges, which others can learn from.

1. Keeping the local market teams engagedGaining trust and cooperation with your local market team or representative can take a little time and should be built into timescales. But the results are worth it. It is the local markets who hold the key to insights and knowledge and will help provide the platforms for best brand copy, whichever market they go into.

2. Maintaining a consistent style and tone From digital media to print, in our experience this issue is best managed by ensuring that the agency only works with one translation company, who uses the same translation team and also, importantly, maintains an up-to-date translation memory which can be continually accessed and expanded as more marketing collateral is translated.

Translation memory software – so no-one goes back to the drawing boardHaving a smoothly run project is every agency’s dream, and, with the processes we put in place, our projects run to time and on budget. We also use software that stores copy, phrases and terminology for easy retrieval for subsequent projects. Your translation memory is updated with each project and ensures consistency across all marketing communications, including digital, print and audio. It also reduces the need for reprocessing existing translations, saving your client money too.

“Comtec executed our translation project in a very

professional, friendly manner and I was continually kept informed of

work in progress. The final translation scripts were of excellent quality

and delivered in the exact format I required. I would highly recommend

their services to anyone.”

We’re one of the few UK companies who’ve won the internationally recognised quality standard awards for service, process and quality assurance. They’re called the EN15038 and ISO9001. Not as quirky as a little pencil on a shelf, but just as prestigious.
