INTERNET The definition of the internet is millions and millions of small networks, which come together to form the “Inter-network”. One of the main parts of the internet is the world wide web (WWW). When we think of the internet, we think of web pages, but it actually includes many more parts, such as social networking, chats rooms, news groups and email. The world wide web hasn’t existed for as long as the internet. 1 website= 1 or more web pages. Each page= images, text and videos. One problem with the Internet is that anyone can post whatever they want, so it is easy for people to get offended, however, there is a way of fixing this problem, by being able to report abuse helps to control what people post, and to put a stop to them posting it. This is where I got my information from for the definition of the internet.

INTERNETThe definition of the internet is millions and millions of small networks, which come together to form the “Inter-network”.

This is where I got my information from for the definition of the internet. http://www.teach-ict.com/gcse_new/internet/internet_www/miniweb/pg2.htm

The link between domain names and IP addresses.

IP address: An IP address identifies a certain device and network. So, this means that data can be transferred in it.

Domain Names: it is a text label given to find a website. For example, from the website I have found my research from, the text label would be www.teach-ict.com A more common one would be www.google.com The top level domain is the .com, .org, or .co.uk Each one must be unique, paid for and have a time limit. The top level domain may be available for 1 year, but then you would have to renew it, or otherwise somebody else would be able to use it. By paying for th domain name it helps to reduce the cost for having no website. Some domain names are very valuable, but some are worth barley a penny.

So, the link between the domain name and the IP address would be that the IP address is the part of the domain, which is handles the top level domain by a register. The register gives the domain name and IP address and to register who owns it.

The place where I found all my information was on from the links to the pages below

Packet Switching and Data PacketsThis is a method in which you break down data into chunks in order

to be able to send them across the internet. (packet switching)Packet Switching can be used to send emails or data to different

countries (Data packets are the part where they are broken down into different parts)

Before the data is sent it is given a header which contains an IP address. The header also contains data which shows the number of packets (how many time one thing has been split into).

The link above is where I got my information from

Data packet is a way of transmitting data over a network, which means conveying of switching data. Data packet means splitting things up into packets or parts, and then these are sent independently to a computer.

RouterA router is basically a way of transferring data and

forwarding data packets from network to network, by taking the route that will be the most efficient and the most quick.

Inside the router is a micro computer, and this contains a table of data, and this contains networks which it is connected to. This means that it detects how busy each network is a one certain time. This is called a routing table. We have an example of a wireless router in our houses, this is the object that enables us to social network and look up information online. There is an example of one above.
