01) ENHANCE START MENU SPEED Start >Run & type ‘regedit’. (On the left pane) HKEY_CURRENT_USER>Control Panel>Desktop.

Open the registry with name “MENUSHOW DELAY” (Right pane). Change the value data to ‘0’. (REMEMBER ‘1’ is for ENABLING & ‘0’ is for DISABLING) Press OK & restart the computer.

02) OS SELECTION OPTION IN THE STARTING Right click on ‘MY COMPUTER’ >Properties>Advanced tab. Click on ‘Settings’ under the ‘Startup & Recovery’ heading. Then select your default OS from Default OS drop-down menu. Then change the timing between options “Time to display list of OS” & “Time to display

recovery option when needed’ to ‘0’ If you want to enable again, change the timing between 20-30 seconds.

03) CHANGE THE THUMBAIL SIZE Start>Run & type ‘regedit’. (on the left pane)HKEY_CURRENT_USER>SOFTWARE>MICROSOFT>WINDOWS>CURRENT

VERSION>EXPLORER. (on the right pane)Right click>New>Dword value. Do this once again and rename the created

registries as “THUMBNAILSIZE” &”THUMBAIL QUALITY” respectively. Then change the size & quality by selecting respective registry.

THUMBNAIL SIZE: 32-246 THUMBNAIL QUALITY: 50-100. Then restart, if necessary.

04) ENHANCE FOLDER BROWSING SPEED My Computer>Tools>Folder Options>’View’ tab. Untick the “Automatically search for network folders & printers” checkbox, under the

‘ADVANCED’ tab. Press OK & restart the computer.

05) INCREASE INTERNET SURFING SPEED Start>Run. Type ‘gpedit.msc’. ENTER. (Left pane of the Group window)Computer Configuration>Administrative

Templates>Network>QoS Packet Scheduler. Select “Limit reserve able Bandwidth”. Tick the ‘Enable’ radio button & reduce the Bandwidth limit to 0%.Press OK.

06) KNOW WHEN PC STARTED Start>Run. Type ‘cmd’. ENTER. In the ‘cmd’ window type “net statistics workstation” (without quotes).ENTER. The information & the processes done after the PC started will be displayed with the time. NOTE: If your OS is XP-PRO, then type “systeminfo”.

07) HIDDEN STAR WARS MOVIE There is a hidden ASCII ‘STAR WARS’ movie in XP. Start>Run>Type “telnet towel.blinkenlights.nl” without quotes. ENTER.

08) PROTECT YOUR FOLDER Open the required folder. Tools>Folder Options>Uncheck the last option in ADVANCED

SETTINGS of ‘VIEW’ tab “USE SIMPLE FILE SHARING(RECOMMENDED)”.Press OK. Close the folder & right click on it>Properties>”Security” tab>Advanced>Remove check from

“Inherit from parent that permission…”>Click REMOVE>OK. Now nobody can access that folder, even you. But when you want to open that folder again, then Right click on the

folder>Properties>Security tab>Advanced>Check the box again “Inherit from parent…..”OK. Now repeat the process when you close the folder to keep it private.

09) STOP HIGHLIGHTING THE NEWLY INSTALLED PROGRAMS Right click on ‘START’ button & select Properties. Then Customize. Advanced tab>Deselect checkbox “Highlight newly installed programs”.

10) START THE SCREENSAVER INSTANTLY Start>Search>Pictures, music & videos>Pictures & photos. Type “*.scr” (without quotes).ENTER. Right click on the favorite snap & send it to Desktop or simply copy & paste. Now, whenever required the screensaver, just click on it.

11) ENABLE/DISABLE THE “FILE SIZE” YELLOW BOX WHEN CURSOR MOVES ON IT Control Panel>Folder Options>View tab>Select/Deselect the radio button next to “Display

the file size information in folder tips” as per the requirement.

12) DESKTOP LABEL TRANSPARENT Start>Settings>Control Panel>Systems>Advanced tab>Performance>Settings. In the opened Performance Options Window, tick the last second option “Use drop shadows

for icon labels on desktop”. Apply OK.

13) ADD A FOLDER/DRIVE IN “SEND TO” Right click on the folder/drive that you want to add & select ‘Create a shortcut’ Control Panel>Folders>View tab>Click on “Show hidden files & folders”. C:\Documents & Settings>Send To folder & paste the created folder of step 1 here.

14) DISABLE “SEND ERROR” REPORT Start>Control Panel>Performance & Maintenance>System OR SIMPLY Win key +Pause. Select the Advanced tab & click on Error reporting button>’Disable Error Reporting’ option.

ENTER. Now onwards, no error will come if the program crashes.

15) HIDE THE LOCAL DISK Start>Run & type ‘regedit’.

(On the left pane)HKEY_CURRENT_USER>Software>Microsoft>Windows>Current Version>Policies>Explorer.

Right click on the right pane>New>Dword value. Give “No Drives” as the registry name. Open that & enter the value (as given below) of the

drive you want to hide. Press OK & restart the computer. A=1, B=2, C=4, D=8, E=16, F=32, G=64, H=128, I=256, J=512, K=1024, L=2048, M=4096, N=8192, O=16384, Q=65536, R=13072, S=262144, T=524288, V=2097152, W=4194304, Y=16777216, ALL DRIVE=67108863

16) CHANGE FOLDER BACKGROUND Open the folder >Tools>Folder Options>View>Select “Show hidden Files”. OK. Within the folder, Right click>Properties>Customize>Change Icon & select anyone. Now, in the address bar of the folder, add “\desktop.ini” (without quotes) & press ‘GO’. ADD following in the opened Text editor(Notepad or so):

Save it & refresh the folder. The image will be at your folder. (OPTIONAL)Finally, open again “desktop.ini” & delete the first three lines” [Shell Classinfo….

17) TO ADD THE APPLICATIONS IN QUICK LAUNCH TOOLBAR Right click on the space between/end of the existing shortcut icons in the quick launch OR

SIMPLY Right click on the taskbar>Untick the “Lock the taskbar” option. This will create some dot like structure at the two ends. Now, just right click on the space betwixt the last icon and the structure.

Go to Open Folder & copy-paste the application you want to add.

18) DELETING SYSTEM OPTIONS (RUN, FIND etc.) FROM THE START MENUYou can actually remove the Find and Run options from the start menu by performing a simple registry hack. Again like always launch the registry editor (Start>Run, type ‘regedit’).

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer. Right-click on the right pane and select New, DWORD Value. Name it NoFind. (To remove the

RUN option, name it NoRun). Double-click the newly create DWORD to edit its value and enter 1 as its value. This will disable the FIND option of the Start Menu and will also disable the default Shortcut key (F3 for Find.)

To restore the Run or find command, modify the value of the DWORD to 0 or simply delete the DWORD value. (REMEMBER ‘1’ is for ENABLING & ‘0’ is for DISABLING)

19)RECOVER WINDOWS XP ADMINISTRATOR PASSWORD Have you forgotten Windows XP Administrator login password or do you want to hack or change the Administrator password of the windows system, then this is just for you.

Restart your computer. Press F8 key continuously until you get a black screen where you have many options to start you operating system.

From the options “Select the Safe mode with Command Prompt”.

When your computer starts in DOS mode, type the following commands net userThis command displays the list of users on this OS in ROWS.

Now type the following commands to reset the windows Administrator passwordnet user username passwordNote: Enter your username above and space then passwordThen it asks the new password without the last password.Now type your new password ******again retype your new password********Note: When you type the password, it will not be displayed.

19) HIDE/UNHIDE THE CONTROL PANEL If you want to hide the Control Panel from the Start menu, then just do the following prank: Start>Run & type ‘regedit’. Navigate through KKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Windows/Current

Version/Policies. Now, if there is a key named “SYSTEM”, then it is well n good. But if not, then no need to

worry. Just right click on “POLICIES”>New>Key & name it as “SYSTEM”. Now under this “SYSTEM” key, create a DWORD value(Right click on the right

pane>New>DWORD value) named “NODispCPL”(without quotes) & set it’s appropriate value(‘1’is for ENABLING & ‘0’ is for DISABLING).

20) DISABLE PASSWORD PROMPT ON RESUMING FROM STANBY Start>Control Panel>Power Options. In the Advanced tab, uncheck the box next to ‘Prompt for Password when computer

resumes from Standby’.
