with the Desktop.

Desktop

When you switch on your computer, the

following screen appears after sometime.

This is called

the Desktop.

The small

pictures on the

Desktop are

called icons.

Whatever you have

on your computer

is accessible from

the icon called

My Computer.

My Computer

When you double-click on the My Computer

icon, you will get the following screen.

You can see different icons in this window.

When you double-click on any of the icons,it performs certain tasks.

This shows that your computer has a

floppy drive of size 3 1/2". You can

insert a floppy in the floppy drive.

When you double-click this icon, itgives you the contents of the floppy

disk inside the drive.

This shows that your computer hasa hard-disk drive. When you

double-click this icon, it gives you

the contents of the hard disk.

This shows that your computer has a

CD-ROM drive installed. You can

insert a CD and see its contents by

double-clicking the icon.

Folders and Files

When you double-click the icon [C:] in My

Computer, a window appears which displays

a list of files and folders in the hard disk.

The icon for a folder is . A folder

is used to store a group of files with

data on the same subject. A folder cancontain files and other folders.

Folder

Any piece of information stored in the

computer is in the form of a file.

The background of the Desktop is called

the wallpaper. The Control Panel helps

you change the settings of your computer.The steps to change the wallpaper and the

screensaver are:

3. Double-click the Display icon. The DisplayProperties window appears.
