Exemplar Pack GCSE Computer Science (9-1)
About this exemplar pack
This pack has been produced to support Computer Science teachers delivering
the new GCSE Computer Science (9-1) specification (first assessment summer
2018).
The pack contains exemplar student responses to GCSE Computer Science (9-1)
Components 1 and 2. It shows real student responses to a selection of
questions taken from the sample assessment materials. Examiners’ comments
are included.
The students were AS students in the fourth month of their course who had not
done GCSE Computer Science, so there were some topics which they had not
covered at that stage.
Assessment Objectives
There are three Assessment Objectives which are assessed in this qualification.
Assessment Objective Weighting
A01 Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the
key concepts and principles of computer science

Question Types
A selection of questions have been chosen as exemplars to cover different
command words, styles of questions and topics.
Mark Schemes
This pack includes mark schemes for the exemplar questions only. It is
important to note that these questions and mark schemes are from the Sample
Assessment Materials; for live papers additional answers may be added during
moderation.
The complete Sample Assessment Materials can be found at Sample Assessment
