2010 Civic Organization of the Year

Lynn Hawkins Retires After 13 years of

Leadership at Mentor Library

Lynn Hawkins will retire as Mentor Public

Library’s executive director on January 31.

To give a sense of how much Mentor Public

Library has grown under her leadership, when

she was hired in 2004, the library didn’t even

have wireless internet.

Hawkins worked to keep the library solvent

when the state cut nearly 30 percent of our

funding between 2008 and 2009. She also

helped steward the library during the recession

of 2010 when we experienced record circulation and program attendance.

During her tenure, Mentor Public Library won News-Herald’s Best of the

Best Lake County Library for five consecutive years (from 2010 to 2014)

until the newspaper retired the category and was named Civic Organiza-

tion of the year in 2010 by Mentor Area Chamber of Commerce.

Under Hawkins’ guidance, we’ve added digital services so you can read

e-books or stream music and video anywhere; we’ve given away tens of

thousands of books from our Little Free Libraries and Pop-Up Library;

and we’ve offered more story times, classes, services and items than ever.

We were fortunate to have Lynn as our leader and wish her the best in

retirement.
