Advancing Creative Careers w/

Computer Aided Drafting

A STEM based curriculum featuring course

work in physical Science, Technology, Engi-

neering and Mathematics. Graduates of the

program should have a thorough under-

standing of the techniques required to de-

sign and produce drawings of mechanical

system and components. Extensive empha-

sis is placed on Computer Aided Design

(CAD) applications using current AutoCad,

SolidWorks and Chief Architect software's

as well as 3D printing and prototyping. Of

additional importance is the ability to place

significant attention on detail and create

technically correct drawings based upon

current industry standards.

Course work includes mechanical drafting,

CAD, 3D modeling, Fluid Mechanics, Ma-

chine Design and proper drawing documen-

tation. Concepts such as machine shop pro-

cesses, basic materials, and physical scienc-

es as they relate to the design process are

also included. The use of proper dimension-

ing and tolerancing techniques is stressed.

Graduates will be able to obtain employ-

ment in both the private and public sectors,

working for companies or governmental

agencies.

…a Diploma program option which includes 36 credit hours of course-

work typically taken over a four semester period. Students will re-

ceive training in the proper use of traditional as well as computer aid-

ed design applications. Students will use acquired skills to complete

individual class projects. In this program a student will receive sub-

stantial instruction on 2D drafting techniques and procedures along

with an introduction to solid modeling with SolidWorks software.

… an AAS degree program option which includes 68 credit hours of

coursework typically taken over a two year period. Students will re-

ceive extensive training in the proper use of computer aided design

applications, solid modeling and 3D printing. Additionally students

use acquired skills to complete class projects individually as well as in

teams. In this program a student will learn to take an idea and bring it

to real life. Prototyping allows them to check the idea as a physical

part and modify it if needed before the project is completed.

… a Computer Aided Design Certificate program option which in-

cludes 12 credit hours of coursework. Students will receive training in

the proper use of computer aided design applications in 2D design as

well as an introduction to solid modeling with SolidWorks software.

While not required, students should have a working knowledge of

drafting techniques and standards prior to entering this program.

Additionally students use acquired skills to complete individual class

projects. In this program a student will receive instruction on comput-

er aided drafting techniques and procedures.

… a Drafting Technology Certificate program option includes 12 credit

hours of coursework typically taken over two semesters. Some stu-

dents may complete some or all of the requirements for this program

while still enrolled in high school. Students will receive training in the

proper use of drafting applications. Additionally students use acquired

skills to complete class assignments. In this program a student will

receive instruction on 2D drafting techniques and procedures as well

as an introduction to Computer Aided Design (CAD)
