Composting, bokashi and worm farmingAll your food and garden waste can be reused at home. Composting, bokashi and worm farming is easy to do and Council would like to make it easier. We can offer you some tools to help you get started, these include:

How?You will need to work out if a compost bin or a worm farm suits your needs. There are many types and sizes to suit your space.Compost bin suits your needs if you have a:• Large number of people in your family• largegarden• lotoffreshfruitandvegetablescrapsBokashi or worm farm suits your needs if you have:• Food scraps from one or two people• asmallgardenorliveinaflatortownhouse
Your rebateIf you have purchased a compost bin, bokashi or worm farm, Council will provide you with a $25 rebate per purchase.All you have to do is:
1. Fill in and sign the attached form2. Attach your original receipt (it must include
the place of purchase on it)3. Return it to Council4. We will mail you your cheque
(cheques are sent at the end of each month)5. Come along to a workshop to set yourself up
and get your system working wellYou must live in the Blacktown local government area to claim a rebate. There is a limit of two rebates per household.
If you already have a compost bin, bokashi or worm farmDo you already have a compost bin or worm farm that isn’t working quite right? Then come along to one of our free workshops. It will cover how to set up a compost bin or worm farm, how to maintain it and troubleshooting.
Each participant will receive a free compost bin (limit one per household. If a household claims a free compost bin they will only be eligible to claim one other rebate.)

Where do I get a compost binbokashi or worm farm?Hardware stores and garden centres sell compost bins and worm farms. For worms look under worms in the Yellow Pages. Search the internet under “Bokashi” for a full list of suppliers.
