Composition-the way elements are arranged and balanced on the surface.
• Balance-‐the equal weight of visual elements. • Unity-‐Recurring elements such as line, value, shapes, working together to create a unified whole.
• Variety-‐CreaAve tension and change to the recurring elements
• Focal Points-‐focal points are achieved through line, color, light, size etc.
• Movement-‐ How your eye travels across surface.
Visual Paths of Movement
• Our eyes tend to try and join together elements in a composiAon that are similar in some way. RepeAAon of similar elements creates visual paths of movement.
• If a parAcular shape, mark making, value, etc. is repeated throughout composiAon, our eyes will move back and forth between the shapes.
• Space in between these shapes allows your eye to move around the surface.
