Tronic TrafoElectronic transformers
Electronic short circuit protection If the current which is taken from the transfor-mer exceeds a limit value, a protection switch blocks the function much faster than a fuse and thus prevents further current output of the trans-former. When the fault in the system has been removed, the transformer automatically restarts its normal operation.
Electronic over-temperature protectionA Tronic transformer is capable of protecting the circuit if the temperature or loading is excee-ded. This protects the system integrity and avo-ids defects.
If the Tronic transformer is over-loaded, it cannot dissipate the generated heat because of unfavou-rable fitting conditions or it is heated up by the connected lamps, the temperature in the trans-former rises too high. Such a high temperature would shorten the service life of the transformer. Therefore a protection circuit measures the tem-perature of the transformer. If the limit tempera-ture is exceeded, it automatically dims down the connected lamps. Thus overhea ting and defects to the devices can be avoided. If an automatic dimming of the lamps is no ticed, cooler opera-ting conditions for the transformer should be pro-vided in the long run. By measuring the tempera-ture of the tc-point marked in black on the label-ling of the trans former, the faultless operation of the Tronic transformer with regard to overheating can be checked. If, after operation over several hours, the temperature stays below the admissi-ble printed value, the device is fitted perfectly.

Fitting conditionsSince the Tronic transformers of Insta bear the MM mark, it is admissible to install them into fur-niture without knowing the grade of fire resi-stance of the furniture material. A minimum space, however, depending on the type of the device and indicated in the fitting instructions, must be provided around the transformer.
Insta offers a range of electronic transformers in many sizes to suit the needs of a spectrum of applications like architecture illumination, medi-cal technology, furniture industry and illuminated advertising.
Insta Tronic transformers stand out due to their high quality workmanship, wide load range of 40 - 200 W, electronic short circuit protection, temperature protection with automatic power reduction.
Fields of useLuminaires with low-voltage halogen lamps are designed for a power consumption of 5 W to 100 W and an operation voltage of 12 V. Thus a trans-former must convert the mains voltage of 230 V into an alternating voltage of 12 V. Here Insta offers a wide range of electronic transformers (also called converter or switched-mode power supply) under the name Tronic Trafo.
To compensate mains voltage fluctuations, elec-tronic transformers are designed for a secondary nominal voltage of 11.7 V. Thus, even in case of mains voltage and load fluctuations a lamp vol-tage of 12 V is not exceeded.

Operating conditions for Tronic transformers
The following installation rules should be observed by users of Tronic transformers in order to guarantee technically faultless operation.
Length of the secondary lead must not exceed 2 m
The secondary lead must not be laid parallel to mains leads in order to prevent radio interferences
For installation in lights please check the temperature at the tc-point
Provide for sufficient space between lamp and transformer so that the connected lamps cannot heat up the transformer
Do not switch Tronic transformers together with inductive loads (e.g. fluorescent lamps with conventional ballasts), as otherwise spikes could damage the transformers
If the 230 V mains is troubled with spikes, over-voltage protection modules have to be installed
If Tronic transformers are fitted in lights of protection class I, an exceeding of the radio interference limit values can be compensated by installation of an EMC-module
For dimming of Tronic transformers only use Tronic dimmers of universal dimmers of the companies Insta, Berker, GIRA or Jung or dimmers of other manufacturers switching off permanently after a short-circuit
Additional product-specific installation rules that are attached to the transformers must strictly be observed

instafunk
instafunk is a wireless radio control system. Its advantage is easy retrofitting. The comfort of an existing system can clearly be enhanced with-out additional control leads. High flexibility is obtained by the possibility of integrating mobile luminaires.
Wireless functioninstafunk allows wireless switching and control of individual or group lights or light scenes, through to broadcast commands. All lamp types - HV and LV lamps, long-field lamps and compact fluore-scent lamps as well as the corrsponding ballasts like electronic ballast with 1-10V interface can be controlled on radio basis. The instafunk compo-nents listed below can be combined sensibly in a lighting project so that instafunk becomes a pro-blem-solving, several-room-control light control system. These are for instance:• transmitter, like light control panel, hand and wall transmitter, universal transmitter• receivers like swichting, dimmer and shutter actuator, 1-10 V control unit
In contrast to the well-known remote control sys-tems based on infrared radiation, the instafunk system uses electro-magnetic waves for the trans-mission of control telegrams. The electro-magne-tic rays propagate radially and permeate walls and furniture .
Easy commissioningProgramming of an installation within the insta-funk system is effected by easy learning processes between transmitter and receiver – a PC-sup-ported member definition is not required.
Theoretically, each transmitter can address an infinite number of receivers, the receivers can be programmed to 30 transmitters each, without demanding programming knowledge from the user.
Quality assuranceFor instafunk applications the communication transmission on a frequency of 433 MHz has pro-ven itself in practice. Compared to low-cost sys-tems the instafunk system is considerably more narrow-banded. It works more selectively and thus is less sensitive to interferences from outside.
The instafunk system components have an indi-vidual serial number excluding mutual influence of parallel systems. Active influence from outside, e.g. by radio amateurs (interferers) is also exclu-ded, so that the products offer a high operation reliability.

The battery-fed, cable-less instafunk presence detector is installed at the cei-ling and monitors a working place beneath. When the preselected bright-ness is underpassed and movement is detected, the detector switches on lights or light groups by RF-signal which are equipped with instafunk devices. It switches off when over a certain period of time no movement has been detected. By means of an integrated brightness sensor a constant light con-trol is possible. The advantage is high energy saving.
