After manufacturing roll cages for 25 yearsfor the motorsport industry, in 2008 Romagecofound a gap in the market to supply and manufacture Roll Over Protection Structures to theEast African market to OGP and Mining standards. All of our ROPS are manufactured in Kenya and carry a safety certificate and registration. The ROPS manufactured by ROMAGECO Kenya Ltd are designed to augment the existing cabin strength and to reduce the cabin crush and therefore reducing the potential for injuries in a rollover. These are proudly manufactured in Kenya to OGP (FIA #253) and RMA Mining standards.

Due to the sensitivity of the standards and practices within the OGP, Exploration and Mining industries, we understood that the final product has to be manufactured with precision, with safety being the priority. The Mining industry and OGP have some variations in specifications and we follow clearly defined protocol differentiations.Romageco Kenya Ltd is experienced in both protocols.

New vehicles are studied and scrutinized prior to the fitment of ROPS to determine maximum safety, space saving and air bag intrusions. With that technical drawings are issued, so that the client understands better the fixings to the vehicle and the sizing of the structure.

Because we supply to the OGP and MiningIndustries, we take safety very seriously. All of our Roll Over Protection Structures are put through Vigorous testing to ensure they comply to the client’s specifications.

This test protocol that has been developed by RMA group in Asia, ROMAGECO (K) LTD is following this protocol to test ROPS for light weight commercial vehicle. The Automotive here is to apply internal rollover protection structures (ROPS) to any light weight commercial vehicles such as; Ford Ranger, Mazda BT50, Ford Everest, Mitsubishi Triton, Nissan Navara, Toyota Landcruiser, Nissan Patrol etc.

Romageco has been in the automotive industry since April 1989 and has plenty of experience in vehicles and mining experiences, therefore the ideal company in dealing and designing any structures for vehicles.

The ROPS designed by Romageco Kenya LTD are designed to augment the existing cabin strength and to reduce the cabin crush and therefore reducing the potential for head injuries in a rollover. It is important to note that compliance with this test protocol does not certify that the vehicles are safe in a rollover situation, or that injury to occupants will be avoided or reduced. Furthermore, it is important to note that fitment of ROPS does not in any way reduce the requirement to wear seatbelts and have air bags, which are the most important piecse of safety equipment in the event of rollover.

AN EXAMPLE OF THE FORCES WITHSTOOD BY AN OGP ROLL OVER PROTECTION STRUCTURE ARE CLEARLY DEMONSTRATED IN THE PICTURE BELOW

The internal ROPS assembly for Toyota Hilux, Land Cruiser 76/78/79, Nissan NP300, Nissan Patrol,Mahindra Scorpio and Mahindra Bolero has passed the test requirements as the tubes for ROPS did not fracture, split nor experienced failure during the three mentioned loadings for the validation matrix value. The maximum load was achieved with displacement recorded and graphs presented within the report. The certification requirements of seat belt mounts, meaning that a minimum longitudinal strength of 13.5 kN is required for each seat belt mount (see ADR 5/05 or UN ECE 14/06). Therefore in this test the seat belt mounts on ROPS was ignored and thus and addition of load 13.5kN on Hoop B can be added to test results. ROPS are fitted with high density padding for not less than 80kg/m for occupant impact protection.
