This map illustrates satellite-detected shelters andother structures at the Kapise refugee camp inMwanza District, Malawi. The camp is for refugeesfleeing reported violence in neighboring Mozambique.An initial examination of WorldView-2 satellite imageryacquired 21 January 2016 indicated 619 shelters whilethe latest imagery from 16 February 2016 revealed atotal of 1,497 structures within the camp amounting to141.84% increase in shelters. The latest imageindicates that, of the 1,497 shelters, approximately 24of these were administrative buildings, 1,416 were tentor improvised shelters, and 57 were semi-permanentstructures. This is a preliminary analysis and has notyet been validated in the field. Please send groundfeedback to UNITAR - UNOSAT.
