Major Activities and/or Accomplishments

Special Issues

List and describe those activities (maximum of five) that you think contributed most to theprofessionalism of your student chapter and of your student members. Explain theimportance of the activities and indicate which one you feel was the chapter’s mostoutstanding event of the school year. You can repeat activities listed in the preceding

tables and/or add new activities.

1. Chapter's Inauguration: This has to be the first in the list. This was one of theproudest moments for SPERGCE last year and it was the very reason for the momentumthat kept the Chapter on the run. It was also an opportunity to showcase the creative andorganizing skills of the Petroleum Engineering students of the college. This, withoutquestion is the Chapter's most outstanding moment.

2. ADIPEC: The fact that one of our member Mr. Veera Ragava Keshavan (currentPresident, SPERGCE) was selected to represent the college and India as a whole forADIPEC 2008& his sucess as a third place winner for the project just went on to prove thatthere is no dearth of talent in the Department. His selection instilled pride among themembers and it also served as an encouragement for other students to developthemselves in order to strive for higher standards in every front of their career.

3. Field Trips: Two field trips were arranged, one for the juniors and one for thesophomores. These events hold importance in the sense that they helped the students geta better understanding of the subjects that were taught in the classroom and bring intopicture a first-hand practical perspective into their studies. This is a direct enhancementfor their professional lives.

4. Project Works: This was mainly concerned with the members from the Final Year.Project Works, compulsory for the successful completion of the degree programme, weresecured in few companies, which included both NOC(s) and Private companies, located indifferent parts of India. This arrangement was made possible by the active support of thesponsoring section through the Chapter's Liaison Officer. The importance of this can beunderstood from the fact that it usually is difficult to get consent from companies for such

kind of requests but SPERGCE lend credibility to those requests and hence helped thebeneficiaries in the successful completion of their degree programme.

5. SPE School: This was an initiative taken by SPERGCE with the aim of developing theindividual by involving him/her in activities related to Techinical ,Communication andLeadership skills. The objective of the programme falls in line with an expectation that SPEhas of its Chapters that is to develop today's students to become tomorrow’s leaders andhence its importance is outlined by the efforts of SPERGCE to fulfill this expectation.

List below any unusual chapter constraints on events listed in this Annual Report thatadversely restricted your chapter’s effectiveness. Include constraints that resulted fromgeography, demographics, finances, etc.

Summary

1. What significant contribution do you believe your chapter accomplished last year? (500 words or less)

2. What significant challenges did the chapter face last year compared to the prior year, and how did you s

"For the efficacy with which the Chapter transformed its capabilities into achievements, and dreams into reality".

Answer each of the questions below within the limits given. Before you begin this page, you should complete eacpages in this document, then write your summary to help us understand why we should identify your chapter as the mos

in your division.  The cells will expand as needed to accommodate your text.

SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTIONS:SPE Rajiv Gandhi College of Engineering (SPERGCE) has contributed significantly towards the development of the membenon members. First and foremost, SPERGCE is only in its infancy stage, but the impact that the Chapter has effected in acollege over the past one year speaks volumes of its achievements.A major contribution is seen in the establishment of an Industry-Academia relationship. With the support of the sponsorinlearning is now enhanced through special lectures from experts and through field visits. This gives a whole new practicalthe knowledge acquiring process which was lacking prior to the establishment of SPERGCE.

SPERGCE has also contributed towards the professional development of its members through lecture series, conferencessponsored by its parent section. This has significantly helped the students to keep track of the latest trends followed in thIndustry.Another significant contribution, which the Chapter has always strived to achieve, is the development of the individual. Tachieved through the SPE School Initiative program in which every student is encouraged to develop his/her communicatleadership skills through delivering lectures or through presenting papers. This was done keeping in mind the expectatioits chapters, which is to prepare today’s students to become tomorrow’s leaders.

and the worsening environmental condition. In connection with this, SPERGCE has sincerely stepped up its efforts througof an Eco Club in the college whose reach is beyond the campus. This is seen as a major contribution towards the makingand happier society. Through SPERGCE, the college has been able to promote itself as an energy school. What would have been a hilly task haachieved in a short span of time through the global outreach of SPE. This has truly injected a whole new global perspectiv

activities of the Petroleum Engineering students of RGCE.Last but not the least, and in fact one of the more important contributions of the Chapter has been its successful efforts iSPE outside of the realm of Petroleum Engineering Department. As an instance to this, it could be noted that SPERGCE hamembers from departments other than the Petroleum Engineering Department. This outlines the success story of SPERGstrongly stake our claim for the “Best Chapter of the Year” award.

Challenges and Solutions:Since we are only in our first year, it is inevitable that we face obstacles. It requires a lot of character and persistence to challenges and SPERGCE has shown why it is not lacking on any of these.First of all there was the issue of organizing and managing members. This includes the challenge of communicating with and meeting their numerous needs. This problem was sorted out by creating awareness about the working of SPERGCE tbrochures and campaigns. Different committees are created to overcome the problem of members’ management. Comm

issues are laid to rest with the creation of the Chapter’s website.

Secondly, there were technically oriented issues. The challenge was to ensure that students and members are enriched wknowledge through interactions with experts from the industry and through field visits. This was solved by establishing awith companies and with the valuable support from our sponsoring section. The biggest challenge so far has been in the financial front. Since almost any activity requires funding, it is important to econtinuous financial support. To alleviate this task, a nominal monthly membership fee is collected from members and thstill seeking for a more substantial solution for this problem.

3. In 25 words or less, write the announcement to tell why your chapter deserves this award. It might say, f"For outstanding efforts to educate the community about the value of the petroleum industryin promoting economy."
