Diversity in Demographics:- Demographic transition model does not
perfectly describe every country in the world- Some countries remain in the first or second
stage for long periods of time- UN giving priority to least developed
countries
Growth Around the World
Managing Population Growth- Governments often try to reduce birth rates
by advertising, family planning programs, economic incentives, or legal punishments
- 1994: International Conference on Population and Development discussed and debated the relationship between population, development, environment. Came up with 5 main goals.
Projecting Populations- Growth is currently slowing down in most
areas- Differing predictions of population by 2050~
conservative estimate predicts 9 billion people*
Your Task:- p. 246: List of goals
- Which seems most important?- Which seems most achievable? Least?
- Write & defend your responses.
