Identity theft has been at the top of the Federal Trade Commission’s list of complaints for more than a decade, and according to the U.S. Department of Justice, an estimated 17.6 million people were victims of identity fraud in 2014 alone. That’s why Connects wants to remind you to order and review your credit report, which can help you:
• Watch for signs of identity theft• Monitor your credit history• Check for errors• Find ways to improve your credit score
The Fair Credit Reporting Act allows you to obtain one free copy annually from each of the major credit reporting agencies (Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion). Simply visit www.AnnualCreditReport.com where you can order one or all three reports at the same time. Or if you have our Value Checking, you can obtain all three reports every ninety days. No matter which way you obtain your credit reports, you are invited to have a loan officer review your report with you.
The Annual Corporate 4 Miler is just around the corner! We are now building our team of runners, walkers, and most importantly – VOLUNTEERS! We need you to join our team! Connects VISA Credit Cards with Added Security VISA Credit Cards are now being produced with the EMV Chip technology. We are issuing the chip cards based on expiration dates. This means you will receive your chip card once your current credit card reaches its normal expiration date that’s on your current card. When you receive your chip card, you will also receive an insert that explains the use of the card and how the chips work.
Several staff have received the chip cards in advance to test them out and here are some tips:
• Not many merchants/stores are prepared to accept the chip cards yet so you will still swipe at most places.
• If the merchant does accept chip transactions, you will insert or “dip” your card into the terminal, leave it in and follow the instructions on the display.
• If a merchant does accept chip transactions, and your card is chip enabled, you will be required to insert or “dip” the card. If you swipe, the transaction will not process and you will be instructed to insert or “dip” the card.
• If you have any questions about the chip enabled VISA credit card, contact any Connects branch.
Connects Debit Cards with chips are on schedule to be available by July. We will follow the same protocol as with our VISA Credit Cards in that the chip enabled debit cards will be sent based upon expiration dates.
