WHY PLACEMENT?
• Placement tests give direction to NC(V) students (GPS)
• Huge financial investment into students
• Right students registered for the right programs lead to improved passing rates
NextPrev
WHY TEST?• Common practice internationally • Focus on academic support, thus
identify skills shortcoming, NOT used for exclusion– Research shows :
• increased academic performance after taking placement tests
• Higher dropout % where no placement test is being used due to:
– Improper placement of students, – Higher levels of frustration experienced
by students – Inability to adapt to the learning material
– X-ray photo of students’ skills and knowledge.
NextPrev
PSYCHOLOGICAL TEST?
• Only psychologists, registered counselors or psychometrists registered with HPCSA may conduct psychometric assessments:
– Limited Colleges have these people on staff and have to outsource
– Expensive– Time consuming– Historic background of exclusion– Not all tests are culture sensitive
• Test developed by specialists
NextPrev

• FOCUS: – To identify prospective NC(V) L2 students who have
basic fundamental knowledge of English and Mathematics skills to cope with the academic learning material
