Magazine The overlapping of the couples heads over the top of the
masthead looks effective as it brings attention to the couple
and who they are and what they represent- the film. This
also shows how this brand of magazine is well known and
therefore it doesn’t need to be overly bold to catch the
target audience.
The masthead I think really stands out against
the white background and this brings attention
to the masthead which produces a conventional
route of the eye.
The use of the black
and white against the
couple’s hair colour
really enhances them
and brings the
attention to their faces
which has a focus
pull on it because of
the key light as I have
blurred the
background.
The Entertainment
magazine that I used to
base my magazine
product on has an
image that has been
taken in front of trees
branches that the
sunlight is penetrating
through them which
creates high key
lighting which
produces a really light
image that is mirrored
by the light coloured
clothing the couple are
wearing. This
produces a house style
across the cover.
The couples hair colour
here really harmonises
which is parallel to the
image on my magazine. The
couple are brought in front
of the masthead which
looks effective and shows
that the magazine is
promoting the film and by
placing the couple in front
of the masthead, this draws
attention to the couples
faces.
The cover lines along
the right hand side I
have tried to incorporate
as many cover lines on
film as possible without
the appearance of the
cover becoming
cluttered as this is not
what I want to create.
The use of black font
against the white shirt
and light skin allows
the text to stand out
and be bold. Also by
using different fonts for
the cover lines, it
creates interest and \t
draws the audiences eye
to each cover line
individually which
makes it clearer to read.
The cover story here is in
large bold sans serif font.
The font is standing out in
black against the white light
background and this draws
attention to the cover story
which is one of the main
features of the magazine
cover. This cover story is
what is promoting the new
film and so its really
important to have this bold
and striking for the
audience to see
immediately.
This smaller text down
below the cover story is
the names of the actors
and I have also used
this because I think it
really promotes the
film particularly if
they’re famous actors.
By putting the actors
names on there, it adds
information and
interest to the cover
story.
Poster
The image I have used
for this magazine is
close up two shot of
the couple which
draws attention to the
characters and their
facial expressions
which sets the tone as
a serious romance.
The key light I have
created by altering the
brightness, saturation
and using the blur
tool, allows focus on
the couples faces.
The use of different tones
across the poster I think
really enhances the light
areas such as their faces
because there is heavy
contrast between the
shadow and highlights.
The green grass is quite
dark which enables all
attention to be on the
characters bodies and faces.
I have used a layering
effect, with the darkest layer
being the grass, the second
layer being their clothing
and the most bright layer
being their faces.
The poster for The
Fault in our stars is
what I based my
poster on as I think
this image is so
effective and the
composition of the
couple is really
symbolic to the
relationship they
have. This worked
for my poster as the
couple laying
opposite ways is
significant to how
they are separated
by specific
problems in the
relationship such
as the distance.
A difference in my poster
to the original is the
camera angle. My angle
allows more of the
females body to be in the
shot which allows the text
to be against a dark
background. Whereas
this image has the female
slightly more to the left so
that her body isn’t really
in the shot and her arm
is used to be the
background against the
text.
The endorsement in the optical area is in
white text because this makes it stand
out against the darker colours. The sans
serif font contrasts to the serif font used
for the title which makes it stand out
even more against the rest of the poster.
As the promotion statistic this is one of
the first features that the audience sees
so it needs to be bold and clear.
The fault in our stars has made this
cover line smaller and in italic
which makes it similar to the title
but because of the white text
against a dark background, it still
stands out and is clear to read. I
think these both look effective as
the endorsement line is important
for promoting the film.
The billing block I have created here
is in grey font and the font I used was
as similar to the billing block font as
possible. I made it grey because this
stood out but not so that it took
attention away from the main features-
as white was too strong. I have also
used the Warner Bros. logo in the
bottom left corner as this is recognition
towards the distributors of the film.
This is a billing block from a Harry
Potter film poster. I particularly like
the way the date is set in the centre of
the billing block in a bolder style font
in white writing to contrast against
the dark background and grey font. I
didn’t use the date in my billing
block as I had already used it on my
poster. I attempted to re-create this
on my poster.
The title of my poster is done in
serif font which brings a
femininity to the poster which is
representative of the genre. The
use of the white and blue text
really works well against the
black background and the blue
and white contrast against each
other so this text really draws in
the audience as it is striking.
The use of the serif title and sans
serif informative captions is that
the serif title relates to the film and
the romance genre whereas the
sans serif captions are giving
information to the audience and
therefore being in different font
they are individual and are clearer
to the eye being in different fonts.
The use of different colours on the
two captions separates all the text
and makes it clearer and more
structured.
The title for the fault in our stars
poster is in a serif font besides the
genre of the film. The font is quite
controversial which makes it stand
out and the use of the white and blue
is striking against the dark
background.
The hash tag used here I think
really allows this film to be targeted
at its primary audience and the
hash tag is representative of the
younger age group.
The use of various sans serif fonts
makes each caption stand out
which is what I have tried to
achieve on my poster.
