•Study Title: Comparing Web-based and classroom-based learning: a quantitative study.•Date of publish: December 22, 2001 •Authors: Thirunarayanan, M.O.; Perez-Prado, Aixa

Statement from the study:

•This study compares the achievement of students enrolled in two sections of a course on teaching English to speakers of other languages (ESOL), one taught in a classroom setting and the other offered online. Students in the online section of the course scored significantly lower than students in the classroom-based course on a pretest. The general research-based consensus is that there is no significant difference in the achievement of students in distance education courses when compared with the achievement of students in traditional classroom.

Statement from the study:

•This paper describes a study to examine student attitude to learning in the IT discipline of Engineering. This paper examines student attitudes to learning as an approach to addressing this issue – Lucas and Meyer (2004) conclude that, once educators know more about their students, they can support them in developing a better awareness and understanding of themselves as learners. Given current concerns about student performance in higher education generally, and their success as practitioners, investigation of factors that affect learning, in order to enhance that experience, is important.
