Background
• Came into existence after unbundling of Delhi Vidyut Board into six entities– one holding company – one generation company (GENCO) (IPGCL)– one transmission company (TRANSCO) – three distribution companies (DISCOMS).
• Major function of IPGCL was generation of electricity with an installed capacity of 994.5 MW and 3000 MW capacity addition in pipeline

Legal structure
• Joint Venture Company was Incorporated on 21.12.2006 with, Indraprastha Power Generation Company Ltd. (IPGCL) and Haryana Power Generation Company Ltd(HPGCL).
• HPGCL and (IPGCL) also formed a joint venture company for developing a coal block at Singrauli in Madhya Pradesh.

• Foundation Stone of 1500 MW Indira Gandhi Super Thermal Power Station laid at Jhajjar in Harayana on 07.10.2007. Delhi gets 750 MW power from this project.
