INTRODUCTIONJers Engineering Consultants, (JEC), is a well-recognized group of engineers in the eld of engineering design & consultancy. The company, with a sta of 150 professionals, has successfully completed various design projects in the elds of urban and rural infrastructure, roads, water supply, sewerage, drainage, solid waste management, waste water treatment plants, plumbing systems, electrical design, structural and HVAC designs. Urban Planning, Architectural and Interior Design Section has successfully completed several projects for domestic and international market. Structural Engineering section of the

rm has designed and supervised numerous buildings of various categories. Electrical Engineering section of the company has carried out internal and external electri cation of several projects for National and International Market.

JEC believes in continued research and development to improve engineering designs. Our aim is to encourage the researchers who take keen interest to introduce the modern engineering technologies and practices in our engineering projects. These steps are taken because JEC always has been bold in applying and merging these research works with the practical engineering practices and thus creating better innovative and pioneering solutions. The results drawn from di erent practical experiences of the engineering projects are also shared with the research communities by reading research and review papers, publications and conducting trainings at di erent forums all over the world.

This wing is headed by Dr. Sajjad Haydar who has 12 years of research and 14 years of practical experience in the eld of Environmental Engineering. Presently he is working as a Professor in the Institute of Environmental Engineering and Research, University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore. In his career throughout, he has supervised various ground breaking research works that have not only been added to the academic courses but have also been contributing to the practical engineering works. He joined JERS as an Associate in 2008. He is assisted by Syed M Sibtain who has been also contributing to di erent research projects all over the country especially in the

eld of infrastructure and environment.

Infrastructure Development Military Hospital & Combined Military Hospital RawalpindiThe Military Hospital & Combined Military Hospital Rawalpindi is the largest hospital of the Pakistan Armed Forces, being the only one in the Pakistan Army, located in the city of Rawalpindi. JEC is responsible for the design and construction of infrastructure facilities which includes Water Supply & Irrigation System, Sewerage System and Wastewater Treatment plant, Drainage System and Fire Fighting System.

Improvement, Rehabilitation and Modernization of Industrial Estate HattarHattar industrial Estate is located in District Haripur, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa; The estate was established in 1985 over an area of 1443 acres. The total number of industries in within the industrial estate is 392 out of which 215 are in operation. JEC is responsible for planning, design, improvement and rehabilitation works for the infrastructural facilities including roads and roads structural works, water supply, sewerage and storm water drainage systems.

Infrastructure Development Project, Bagh City, AJ&KJEC carried out design of Infrastructure Development Project for Bagh City including Water Supply, Sewerage, Drainage, Roads and allied services. The work included Topographic Survey, Soil Investigations, Conceptual Design, Detailed Analysis and Design of the Civil, Structural, Construction Drawings, Speci cation, Bill of Quantities & Engineers Estimates.

Benazir Bhutto International Airport, Islamabad JEC supported LTH JV (Lagan-Technical-Habib Joint Venture) for preparing coordinated master plans and shop details of infrastructure facilities included in Package – 1 and 8A of the project.

Planning & Designing of Infrastructure for NLC,Wagha Dry Port, LahoreJEC carried out master planning and designing of infrastructure services at Wagha Dry port which included design of Water Supply, External Sewerage and Road Drainage system, Road Network, Solid Waste Management, Fire Fighting System, High Tension and Low Tension Electric Network and designing of Area Lighting Designing of Surveillance system.

Khairpur (Sindh) Wastewater Management Plan and Priority Investment Program is an example for which JEC was engaged by Asian Development Bank (ADB) in providing services for preparation of Plan and designing priority project. Priority project has been completed which has changed the landscape of

URBAN /REGIONAL PLANNING & DESIGN

Jers Engineering Consultants (JEC) has a team of uali ed and experienced town planners providing services in the eld of Urban and Regional Planning. Our urban design teams build communities by creating engaging spaces, dynamic neighborhoods, innovative infrastructure and healthy cities. We believe that urban environments are the key to a future that is ecologically, socially and economically sustainable. Working with both public and private clients, our designers are renowned for creating bold, thoughtful, environmentally responsive and economically viable designs.

The team has so far completed many area development schemes and low cost housing projects in Pakistan and abroad. Services included topographic surveys, data collection, zoning, concept plans, detailed plans and supervision at execution stage.

Some remarkable projects include:

Bahria Golf City Islamabad/ Bahria Terraced Housing Rawalpindi Bahria Town is the largest private housing society in Asia. Bahria Town has establishments in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Lahore, Murree and Karachi. Construction of Bahria Golf City Islamabad and Terraced Housing Rwalapindi is designed by Nayyar Ali Dada and services for infrastructure are performed by JEC. It includes design of roads, water supply, and sewerage and drainge system.

The Satellite Town spreads over an area of approx. 740 kanal with a rolling topography along river Jehlum at distance of 16 km from Muza arabad. The scheme is planned on terraces with plots from 1 kanal to 5 marlas. Spaces for public buildings, school, mos ue, society o ce post o ce and graveyard has been kept in the master plan.

Ashiana Housing Schemes Chinot, Kasur, Faisalabad, Sahiwal, Sargodha and Jehlum, Ashiana-e-Iqbal, Burki JEC has been engaged by Punjab Land Development Company (PLDC) to accomplish Chief Minister s vision for providing housing facilities shelter less low income citizens. Mainly 3 marla housing units and plots of varying sizes have been provided with amenities.

Labour Colony at Warburton, Nankana, Punjab Workers Welfare Fund is in continuously providing housing facilities to the workers. This project is a part of Fund s regular mission. Multi story ats with amenities including Boys and Girls Schools, Multipurpose Hall, shops, mos ue and graveyard are being provided in the project. 50 bedded hospital is also part of the project.

Chinar Bagh Extension Chinar Bagh is the project of the greater Lahore Co-op. housing society Ltd. It is a private housing scheme which they further want to extend. JEC has been asked to plan and design the additional 2500 Kanal site.

Rapid development has resulted in accelerated depletion of natural resources. It has also a ected the state of environmental conditions. Depletion of sub soil water and polluted water bodies are the crises our world is facing now-a-days. Situation calls for conservation and better management of these resources. JEC has always been a front line partner in ghting against this threat. JEC s contribution in the eld of Water & Wastewater Management is obvious from the following major projects divided into two categorize.

A. WATER SECTOR

of Colony Sugar Mills, Tehsil Phalia, District Mandi Baha-Ud-Din - Pakistan has received a grant from the Republic of Korea for the construction of water supply systems in 25 villages in the regions of Colony Sugar Mills, Tehsil Phalia, District Mandi Bahauddin. The International Cooperation Agency of Korea, (KOICA), has delegated to Dongbu Engineering Co., LTD KOREA as the Owner, in partnership with the Ministry of PHED & HUD. JEC is engaged for design of water supply of the 25 villages to improve access to safe drinking water for people and this which is an important step in achieving the MDGs by Pakistan.

The Central Design O ce (CDO), Government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Muza arabad, engaged JEC to prepare the Detailed Feasibility Study and undertake the Detailed Design of water supply schemes in Northern zone, AJ&K. The towns/cities include Muza arabad City & Doba Hotrari, Athmu am (Neelum), Hattian Bala, Chikar, Chinari, Thorar, Haveli & Palandri.

of Gujranwala- Water and Sanitation Agency ( WASA) engaged JEC for the master planning of water supply system at Gujranwala City consideration in order to identify a program which is both a ordable and sustainable in the long term The water is abstracted through 74 Nos tubewells of 2-4 cusec discharge that have been installed in di erent parts of the city including 13 Nos standby tubewells which is generally pumped directly in to the distribution system. There are 11 Nos Overhead Reservoir is needed to be analyzed as per present and future re uirements.

JEC carried out design of Greater Water Supply project for Bagh city. B. WASTEWATER SECTOR

It is Community Rehabilitation Infrastructure Support Program (CRISP) by USAID. The whole sewerage ow of Town-1 is being disposed o without treatment into the rivers from di erent disposal points. JEC is responsible for the selection of location of the sampling sites, Wastewater characterization, Assessment of the existing wastewater treatment units and Selection of a recommended of wastewater disposal and treatment for Town-1 Peshawar

Plants in Gujranwala - Presently, no sewage treatment facility exists in Gujranwala and the raw waste water is being disposed, without any treatment, into irrigation channels/ drains. Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Gujranwala Development Authority engaged JEC for the design of Waste stabilization for wastewater treatment. Total area re uired for WWTP 1488 acre. The WWTP is divided into multiple modules. Each module has one anaerobic pond and one facultative pond

Pattoki- Pattoki, is a town in the Kasur District of the Punjab province of Pakistan. It is the head uarters of Pattoki Tehsil, an administrative subdivision of the district. Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) showed its interest to provide funds for the treatment of wastewater of Pattoki. JEC is responsible for designing and Construction of WWTP, Laying of pipe from sump, constructed by Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) Punjab to the WWTP. After treatment e uent will be discharged in to the sullage carrier about 16 Km away.

Estate - The task of design for Combined E uent Treatment Plant (CETP) for Hattar Industrial Estate (HIE) was assigned to JEC by Sarhad Development Authority (SDA). It is a common practice, worldwide, to install combined e uent treatment plants where cluster of industries exist. SDA decided to install CETP for Hattar Industrial Estate. This CETP will treat industrial wastewater to bring the e uent uality within the limits prescribed by National Environmental Quality Standards (NEQS).

Military Hospital, Rawalpindi - Defence Complex Islamabad (DCI), intends to carry out Construction of Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) at Military Hospital (MH) and Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Rawalpindi. The purpose is to treat its sewage water and reuse it for horticulture purposes by providing proper treatment and make the project Environmental Friendly.

SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT

Solid Waste Management (SWM) or municipal refuse disposal, have largely been neglected in Pakistani towns and cities. Dumping and burning of solid wastes in open pits is not encouraged now a days and waste can now be recycled. The recent trends include, waste segregation and collection at source, material recovery, environment friendly land lls etc. In fact this e cient waste management system not only complement clean environment, but it also evolve as a pro table business, creating employment and enhancing income generation opportunities for the communities involved.

JEC provides solid waste management and solution that mainly consists of onsite storage, primary & secondary collection and disposal systems. The primary stage, collection will be from the individual premises and the wastes collected from there be transferred to the communal storage containers. In the secondary stage, communal storage containers are served by motor vehicles and the wastes will be shifted to the disposal site i.e., Land ll Site (LFS). Methane can be recovered which in turn can be used in various processes.

Consultancy Services for Design of Road from RCC Konodas to Nalter Air Force Base Camp Via Nomal-Gilgit,Gilgit Baltistan (45 Km)A Jeep able track had existed between Gilgit City and Nalter valley starting from Karakoram International University (KIU) which had been widened and improved for plying of vehicles during the 1970s. However due to fre uent

oods in Nalter Stream and landslides along the alignment, extensive reaches of the road were destroyed during 25 years period. The road was again widened and improved for carrying out survey and other re uired investigations. Hydropower for the small projects in the valley of Nalter during the period of 1998 to 2005.

Presently the road has been again damaged, in order to up-grade the project road up to the standards for a durable and trust worthy road, the existing alignment needs to be detoured at some locations through stable strata as well as it has to be redesigned both horizontally and vertically in order to avoid sharp and dangerous horizontal curves and unnecessarily steep gradient.Gilgit Public Works Department intends to hire a consultant to establish technical and economic viability of the project and prepare detailed design for the project.

MEP DESIGN

MEP stands for Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing systems.

Mechanical systems in a building are mostly related to HVAC, elevators/escalators and Hot/Cold water generation. HVAC is an acronym that stands for “Heating, Ventilation, Air-conditioning and Cooling”. This is sometimes referred to as “climate control”.

Building electri cation design involves sizing & selection of LV & MV Electrical distribution systems (Panel boards, MCC, Switchgear, Transformer, Capacitor banks), load estimates, illumination, small power, computer networking, re alarm system, close circuit television system, nurse call system, public address system, telephone, earthing and lightning protection system etc.

Plumbing refers to a system of pipes and xtures installed in a building for the distribution of potable water and the removal of waterborne wastes. Plumbing is usually distinguished from water and sewage systems, in that a plumbing system serves one building, while water and sewage systems serve a group of buildings or a city.

TOPOGRAPHIC SURVEYS & REMOTE SENSING

Topographic surveying involves the production of maps and plans which are true to scale. Topographic maps are produced to accurately represent details of both the natural and built environment. They will also include symbols representing features or data too small to produce to scale.

Remote Sensing/Satellite imagery is sometimes supplemented with aerial photography, which has higher resolution, but is more expensive per s uare meter. Satellite imagery can be combined with vector or raster data in a GIS provided that the imagery has been spatially recti ed so that it will properly align with other data sets.

A geographic Information System (GIS) is a system for capturing, storing, analyzing and managing data and associated attributes which are spatially referenced to the earth. In the strictest sense, it is a computer system capable of integrating, storing, editing, analyzing, sharing, and displaying geographically-referenced information.

We have in-house trained and highly productive sta that produces nal Digital Base Maps using various eld observations, remote sensing and satellite imagery techni ues.

Following projects have been successfully completed by JERS.

1.Topographic Survey, Parcel Mapping & Preparation of GIS based Database of Mauza Shish Mahal, Lahore: The Urban Unit intended to conduct pilot Total Station Survey for Mauza Shish Mahal, Lahore including development of GIS Database of approximate 600 Acres area. JEC took this challenging job to provide the services, the survey covered; Individual parcel level property mapping, entire road and street network including marking of all visible features with spot levels, collection of attribute data of all buildings, places, roads and streets and development of GIS base Database.

An energy audit is an inspection, survey and analysis of energy ows for energy conservation in a building or installation, process or system to reduce the amount of energy input into the system without negatively a ecting the output.

Energy conservation can result in increased nancial capital, environmental uality, national security, personal security, and human comfort. Individuals

and organizations that are direct consumers of energy choose to conserve energy to reduce energy costs and promote economic security.

JEC conducted an energy audit under contract with GHK: Preparation of Punjab Cities Improvement Investment Project (PCIIP) for ADB (Asian Development Bank) & Urban Unit (UU) in the continuation of Survey Report on Tubewells and Sewage Pumping Stations in Sialkot.

A comprehensive study was carried out in the form of individual site surveys with the help of necessary gadgets for measuring the re uired operating parameters for adopting the strategy of adjusting and optimizing energy re uirements per unit of output by reducing the total cost. The conducted survey was to estimate the impact of energy cost of pumping water on the overall budget of municipal and water authorities.

Third Party Field Monitoring Of UNICEF Programme and Emergency Response Activities in BalochistanUNICEF wishes to enter into non-exclusive Long Term Arrangement for the procurement of the services of third party monitoring of development and humanitarian activities in the province. Field Monitoring is an important area of program implementations as it informs stakeholders in timely manner on the status of activities/inputs/immediate results. The information collected from monitoring reports is critical in making program adjustments to achieve planned results. Under UNICEF M&E framework eld monitoring helps in for corrective action and timely decision making in case there are any serious issues.

UNICEF Pakistan has used third-party eld monitoring since 2010 for its regular and emergency interventions. This is appreciated by program sta , implementing partners, donors and ood a ected people. The third party monitors have provided timely and credible information and has been a sustainable support to UNICEF program sta , especially during demanding times.

UNICEF is currently implementing its Country Program 2013 to 2017. Services o ered for an experienced consultancy rm to assist the Field O ce Balochistan in monitoring of its Health, Nutrition, Child Protection, Water Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH) and Education interventions. The services of sta may also be used for any other data collection on need basis.

Design and Supervision of Polio Vaccine WarehousesStrengthening health system is fundamental re uirements for ensuring sustainability for the immunization outcome to remove systemic bottlenecks and create conditions and mechanisms for immunization program to deliver better results and sustain them in the future.

Improved access to uality immunization services re uires strengthening and upgradation of infrastructure and vaccine storage facilities. The capacity of the cold rooms and vaccine stores is a major challenge for strong vaccines and there is desire need for more space including overhauling the cold chain system. There is also re uirement to build more warehouses particularly at the district level. In this regard, construction of state of the art warehouses and vaccine stores in compliance of WHO and International standards is inevitable.

This re uires services of a Senior Engineer to coordinate and liaise with Health Section to kick o the construction of EPI warehouses. He will be directly involved for the Sindh, KP, Balochistan, GB and Kashmir warehouses from Islamabad and oversees the work at other provinces as well.

Polio Field monitoring Services for UNICEF in Pakistan.Pakistan conducts NIDs/SNIDs/SIADs in the high risk districts in every month to achieve the goal of stopping transmission of wild Polio virus by mid-2016.

The World Bank has extended a loan for the project captioned “Punjab Cities Governance Improvement Project (PCGIP)”. ESMF is now in place and environmental monitoring team is there. Its third party validation as to the status of its implementation by the concerned agencies and its overall evaluation for its further improvement was re uired. Urban Unit engaged JEC to carry out the assignment of Third Party Validation. Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Multan, Bahawalpur, Lahore and Faisalabad are included in this assignment.

Preparation of Detailed Design and Construction Supervision of Sewerage & Sanitary System of Gilgit CityGilgit Development Authority (GDA) Government of the Gilgit Baltistan under the Gilgit Environmental Improvement Project intends for provision of physical infrastructure for water supply, sewerage, storm water drainage and waste water treatment for the Gilgit City to meet the present & future re uirements for e cient and e ective service delivery. All the wastewater from the Gilgit city is being discharged into River Gilgit. Conse uently, there is a risk and danger of undermining the water uality of the river that could adversely a ect a uatic life and the health of the downstream water users.

Planning & Design of Sewerage & Drainage Networks for Old Town & Dore Ghatti, Gwadar Government of Balochistan through Gwadar Development Authority plans to carry out planning and designing of sewerage and drainage networks for old town and Dore Ghatti, Gwadar. Old Gwadar is deprived of sewerage and drainage facilities, resultantly hygiene, environmental and infrastructure facilities are deteriorating rapidly. GDA now desire to improve living conditions through collection and safe disposal of sewerage and storm water drainage generating from the area. As Gwadar also lack in availability of potable water, and even water for irrigation is also major cause of deforestation, this situation calls for construction of sewage treatment plant and reuse of sewage water for irrigation.

More speci cally the Project intends to improve community health, and reduce environmental degradation in Rawalpindi; by improving the uality and uantity of water supply. The project is expected to improve the living conditions and uality of life of residents living in areas recently included in Rawalpindi WASA jurisdiction. The main objectives of the Project are;

Rapid urbanization and industrialization has resulted in serious deteriorations in our environment. The world “Environment” refer to water, air and soil surrounding us and also includes the ora and fauna. Emerging environmental problems like water pollution, air pollution, disposal of untreated waste water in water bodies and extinction of various species of ora and fauna has emerged as a major threat to the environment in which we live. Some people goes to the extent of saying that deteriorating environment has jeopardized the very existence of human race on the earth.

In view of the aforementioned facts, there is a dire need of making a pro le of the environment around us and keep it updating. It helps in gauging the pollution levels and take preventive and remedial measures if some pollution parameters exceeds our National Standards.

It was with the above background that Environmental Protection Agency

(EPA) of Kyber Pakhtoonkhawa (KPK) has felt the need to update the revised environmental pro le of KPK. For this purpose, consultancy services re uired to carry out the assignment.

Feasibility Study & Detail Design for Sewerage, Drainage and Solid Waste Management Plan for Dera Ismail Khan City-KPKPHED KPK desire to engage Consultants to provide services for the study and design of the drainage, sewerage and solid waste management plan for DI Khan. The scope includes preparing Feasibility Study, Master Planning and Detailed Engineering Design, Tender Documents. Project aims to monitor the huge public investment and expenditure on project for better utilization and money so invested has its envisaged impact on social uplift of ultimate user, thus increasing cost e ectiveness and e ciency in the use of the resources to pave way for ualitative input and real addition in uality of work and improved management nancial bene ts.
