PRODUCTION AND PROCESS PHASE SEPARATIONProduction separation is required to separate produced oil, natural gas and associated waterstreams to be fed to a downstream treatment unit. “COMART S.A.” process technology can providedesigns of any separation equipment which may be required in Oil & Gas and chemical plants.Design may include Computation Fluid Dynamic (CFD) of the separator in both steady anddynamic conditions. Dynamic CFD is particularly useful in some specific application like processequipment operating on FPSO’s or slug catchers.

SLUG CATCHER“COMART S.A.” can design standard slug catcher units of the following type:• single/double barrel;• finger type. Moreover, “COMART S.A.” can design special slug catcher solutions based on its know-how andspecific project separation requirements.

OIL DESALTING AND DEHYDRATIONVery often, salt and free water traces present in the produced crude need to be fine removed to allowcorrect storage and transportation. “COMART S.A.” can provide adequate design for desalting anddehydration systems for any type of oil, by selecting and calibrating oil chemical disemulsifier injection,heat treatment and electrostatic separation.Separators may be designed with a desanding system, if required.

CRUDE OIL/HC STABILIZATION AND HYDROCARBON FRACTIONATION“COMART S.A.” has deep knowledge in the design of stabilization and fractionation of different types of hydrocarbon mixture including:• stabilizers of crude oil/HC condensate;• de-ethanizers, de-propanizers/LPG columns, de-butanizers;• fractionation purifiers (e.g. purification of ethylene and propylene).

GAS SWEETENINGGas sweetening for removal of carbon dioxide, hydrogen sulfide and mercaptanes represents avery important and strong expertise of “Comart S.A.”.“COMART S.A.” can provide tailor-made and optimized gas sweetening solutions based on one or acombination of the following technologies:• amine sweetening;• membrane purification;• molecular sieve adsorption.

MEMBRANE SEPARATIONWhen concentration of acid compounds in raw gas feed stream is relatively high, membranes canbe used for bulk removal of these compounds. Compared to other technologies, membrane unitscan widely reduce the operating/energy consumption cost for mass unit of acid gas removed ifcompared with other separation processes.

AMINE ABSORPTION AND REGENERATIONAmines can be used for sweetening targeted to both bulk absorption of all acid compounds andselective absorption of some specific components.“COMART S.A.” can provide full solutions for bulk and selective sweetening, and for purified gasspecification suitable for any downstream service, from transportation spec only to gas liquefactionprocess.For bulk absorption conventional amines such as DEA, MDEA, DGA and DIPA or activated amines(e.g. aMDEA) can be selected depending on specific conditions.For selective absorption MDEA amine or other MDEA based formulated amines can be used.Specific design of amine towers is provided according to Comart SA know-how.Depending on the selected amine process, amine reclaiming units can be included (i.e. HSS removalunit or amine boil-off reclaimer).For any amine process, “COMART S.A.” can provide fully engineered solutions of main and ancillaryequipment/systems, and all needed utilities.

GLYCOL BASED GAS DEHYDRATIONThe most frequently used dehydration method is based on glycol absorption (often Tri-Ethylene Glycol).Gas is dehydrated by means of a dry glycol stream inside a dedicated absorption tower. Wet gas fromcontactor is regenerated to remove its water content down to required lean glycol specification.“COMART S.A.” can provide full design of dehydration cycle processes with all possible variants whichmay be necessary depending on contingent process conditions and dry product specifications.

MOLECULAR SIEVE DEHYDRATION AND PURIFICATIONWhen extreme gas purification/dehydration is required/requested, molecular sieve treatment isthe treatment to be used. For example, dehydration and acid/sulfur compound fine removal byadsorption on molecular sieve beds is the most frequently used solution upstream of cryogenicliquefaction gas systems. “COMART S.A.” design for molecular sieve systems is targeted to obtain the maximum profitability byfinding the correct compromise between equipment capital cost and energy costs needed for sievebed regeneration.

HC RECOVERY – DEW POINT CONTROLQuite often removal/recovery from gas of hydrocarbon having high/medium molecular weight is aprocess need due to different reasons (e.g. removal of heavy hydrocarbons upstream of membraneor MS treatments, control of HC dewpoint, recovery of high value hydrocarbon fraction like LPG,butane, light condensates, etc.). For these problems “COMART S.A.” has a wide range of solutions,the main of one are:• low temperature separation;• alumina/silica gel adsorption.Different solutions are also available for the recovery of HC vapors from vents/waste streams (i.e. VaporRecovery Units).

COMPETENCEcompetence

LIQUEFIED GAS“COMART S.A.” can provide design and services for different types of liquefied gas units. The basicprocess of some of these units may be patented. In this case, “COMART S.A.” is used to cooperating withthe relevant licensor. The following is a list of the main process units related to liquefied gas which bedeveloped:• LNG (licensed or not licensed);• LPG/butane liquefaction/fractionation;• regasification (LNG/LPG).All these units can be designed together with all the necessary utilities/facilities.

SULFUR RECOVERY UNIT “COMART S.A.” can provide designed assistance from feasibility to detailed design of these processes incooperation with possible relevant licensors; when elemental sulfur is desired as a product, Claus basedprocess, with possible patented variants depending on the specific process environment, or other Redoxpatented processes are the possible solutions proposed. “COMART S.A.” can also provide the design forincineration and washing of flue gas in order to recover the generated sulfur oxides.

MONOMER TREATMENTA fundamental step in many chemical processes is purification of plant feeds from pollutants whichcan deactivate reactor catalysts or have other negative impacts on process results.“COMART S.A.” has developed its own specific know-how for the purification of polymerization (monomers)and other petrochemical process plant feeds (including CO2 purification).

TECHNICAL GASES AND AIR SEPARATIONA particular branch of COMART S.A. is focalized on processes for the production of nitrogen andoxygen from air separation. The best process for the production of these gasses is selected on the basis of several parameters includingproduction capacity, required purity, the possible need for cryogenic product storage, etc. Thus, the possible options are:• PSA / VSA cycles;• membrane separation;• cryogenic fractionation.
