In August 1982, Joaquim and José Da Silva Tavares Snr began J. Tavares & Sons Construction. Their unified vision was to establish a business founded on integrity with personalised and efficient service tailored to meet client’s individual and corporate needs. Evidence of this philosophy, the company is now run by third generation Tavares sons, a testament to the original vision.

Umvuzu Civils is a proud employment equity company with a Level 2 B-BBEE status and is 51% black woman-owned.

Umvuzu Projects CC started in 1999 as an employment company to satisfy our transformation process and has been actively busy in the Construction Business, Plant Hire and Mining Industry. It became beneficial to the future of the business to fulfil our transformation goals and adhere to economic empowerment legislation. And so, Umvuzu Civils (Pty) Ltd was born, the product of a merger between Umvuzu Projects CC and J Tavares & Sons Construction.

Earthworks

Umvuzu Civils has extensive experience in bulk earthworks including but not limited to site clearance and demolitions.

Construction

Our building and construction offering ranges from the building of various industrial infrastructures to residential, commercial and steel structure construction projects.

Open-case Mining

Our open-pit, open-cast or open cut mining offering includes removal of topsoil, load and haul, rehabilitation and material handling.

Civil work

Civil work from Umvuzu is delivered with excellence and pride. Our offering includes pipe lines, concrete works, compaction, setting ponds and pollution control dams as well as the construction of roads.

Plant hire

Our extensive plant hire services range from excavators (20 – 80 ton), articulated dump trucks (20 – 40 ton), bulldozers, motor graders, tractor loader backhoes, loaders, water trucks, 10m3 tipper trucks, ride-on-roller compactors, lighting plants and water pumps.
