Comodo Online Storage - User Guide

1. Comodo Online Storage - Introduction

Comodo Online Storage (COS) is a fast, secure online storage service that provides essential disaster recovery for mission critical or otherwise important files in the event of damage, deletion or theft. Files and data of all types are stored on Comodo's highly secure servers and can be accessed over the Internet from anywhere in the world. In the event something goes wrong with your hard drive, or you lose your system in a disaster or to burglary, you can retrieve your precious files instantly by logging into your account and restoring the backed-up files and data. Your Online Storage space can be mounted as a virtual drive simultaneously on multiple systems - and you can manage your stored files using Windows Explorer as you would with any local drive or partition. Any changes made will be instantly visible on all other computers that are configured to connect to this virtual drive. In addition, your online drive is accessible by programs such as Windows Media Player and iTunes, so you can listen to music from this virtual drive directly as you would from your own system. Your Comodo Online Storage account is not just for files and directories - it can also be used to backup your mail and mail account settings, IM conversations, game saves, disks and partitions (sector-by-sector image), registry keys and more.

Comodo Online Storage service can also be accessed through an intuitive web interface at http://online-storage.comodo.com/index.php without the need of COS client installed in a computer. The web interface has a streamlined tab structure. The files are sorted depending on their types and are listed under the respective tabs. This enables easy identification of the files you want to access at any moment. You can upload files from any computer, download files to any computer from your online storage, rename files on your online storage space and much more, from through the Web Interface directly.

Comodo Online Storage (COS) is an easy to use online storage space that allows you to maintain secure copies of your valuable data. Files stored on COS can be accessed from any computer, whenever and wherever you need them.Comodo offers a variety of ways to access files stored on COS:

• COS client - a lightweight application that allows you to simply drag and drop files into a 'drop box' for uploading to online storage. Apart from the usual file management capabilities, the client also lets you quickly add selected text, images, web pages, print screens and browser bookmarks to your storage space. See 'Managing Your Files using the COS Client' for more details.

• Web Interface - Comodo's streamlined web interface lets you securely access and manage your files from any internet connected computer in the world. To access the interface now, visit http://online-storage.comodo.com/ and click 'Login'. See Managing Your Files using the Web Interface for more details.

• Comodo Backup Software - Comodo's powerful backup solution offers home and business users a wealth of scheduling options and backup types. Files on COS can be accessed through Comodo Backup's built in file explorer.

3.1.Managing Your Files using the COS ClientUpon successful login to your account through the Comodo Online Storage (COS) client from your system, the client:

• Displays a non-intrusive drop box that enables you to directly drop the files/folders, screen captures images, and your browser bookmarks to your online storage space. See Managing Your Files Using the Drop Box for more details.

3.1.1. Managing Your Files using the Drop BoxCOS client displays a Drop Box to conveniently upload your files to your online storage space. The Drop Box is non-intrusive as it appears only whenever you drag a file to drop into it and is translucent avoiding hindrance to view of the portion of the screen behind it. The drop box adds every dropped file to a queue and uploads all added items to your online storage space in a folder named 'Dropped Files'.

Note: The Drop-Zone will be displayed only if the option 'Show Drop Zone' is enabled in the right-click options of the COS client System Tray icon.

An important advantage of the drop box is that when the upload is interrupted due to some reason, say system failure or power loss, the COS client resumes the files upload from where it left off without the need for you to start all over again. You can drag-and-drop various contents given below:

• Files and Folders - You can directly drag the selected files and folders to the COS system tray icon and drop them to the drop-zone that appears. The files and folders will be added to 'Dropped Files' folder in the online storage space.

• Selected text from documents or web pages - You can select the required portion of text from a document or a web page and drag-and-drop it (by holding the 'Ctrl' key) to the drop-zone. The COS client will create files with .txt extension in the 'Dropped Files' folder in the online storage space. The files will be time-stamped in their file names for your identification.

• Images from documents or web pages - You can drag the required image(s) from a document or a web page and drop them (by holding the 'Ctrl' key) to the drop-zone. The COS client will create image file(s) with .jpg extension in the 'Dropped Files' folder in the online storage space. The files will be time-stamped in their file names for your identification.

• Print Screen images - The images captured whenever you press 'Print Screen' key will be saved directly to the online storage space. The images will be saved as .jpg files in the 'Dropped Files' folder. The files will be time-stamped in their file names for your identification.

Note: You should have selected this option from the right click options of the COS client System Tray icon.

• Bookmarks - You can drag the Bookmarks directly from the 'Favorites' drop-down menu of your browser and drop-them to the drop-zone. The dropped bookmarks are saved as .url files in the 'Dropped Files' folder in the online

The Comodo BackUp user guide is available at: http://help.comodo.com/product-9-Comodo-BackUp.html.Changes made to the files in your Online Storage are synchronized across Comodo BackUp (CB) and COS client applications. Any changes you make using one application will be reflected in the other. For example, if you log out of your COS account from either application, the COS drive is unmounted and your offline status is shown in both applications. Since you are accessing the same storage space, you can use either of the client to make changes in the files/folders in COS.

Users may want to consider using the Comodo BackUp application to configure granular BackUp schedules that cover multiple BackUp locations and profiles - and then use the COS client to quickly access their files from any computer in the world without having to install the full application.
