Dear Parents Centenary Open Day This Saturday 22 October from 11.45 until 5.00pm the school will be holding an Open Day to celebrate being 100 years old. I am looking forward to seeing you at this special event. As a memento of our Centenary year a book has been created to mark the occasion. Como Primary School Centenary History & Recipe Book Celebrating 100 Years” is now available for purchase at the office for only $25.00. I would like to recognise the efforts of Mrs Erica Schurmann and her book committee who have worked tirelessly to oversee the creation of the book and continued hard work to ensure the book reached fruition. Erica used information gained from previous Yearbooks and then her own research, plus adding community generated recipes in writing the book. I would also thank Mr Murray Paddick for his addition in compiling the War Service History of ex Como Primary School students. As only 500 copies of the book are available I suggest you get in early to secure your copy. TWO MORE SLEEPS! Kapture Photography, the company that produces our school photos, will be on site in our school hall during our Open Day from noon until 5pm. Their photographer will be set up all afternoon to take photos of family and friends meeting to celebrate our centenary. Information on how to order these photos will be available from Kapture on Saturday. Our Centenary Recipe and History Book is available for sale for just $25 at the stall area on the basketball courts all afternoon on Saturday. The book contains our Centenary whole school photo, so everyone is included! It is a brilliant book and a great buy at only $25. We are very proud of this book and hope that you will enjoy its contents for years to come. Parents of students not returning to CPS for 2017 Please email [email protected] to notify the school if your child/children will not be attending Como PS in 2017. If emailing is difficult please send written confirmation of 2017 enrolment information to the School Office by Friday 4 th November 2016. Class student placement requests for 2017 Each year we provide opportunities for parents to make an educational request for the possible class placements for their child/children for the following year. A reminder that we cannot accommodate requests for specific teachers. If you would like to make an educational request for a particular class placement for 2017 then please forward this in writing and address your letter to the principal by Friday 11 th November 2016. Late requests will not be accepted. Class Lists for 2017 Our leadership team and teachers will shortly be engaged in the process of forming class lists for 2017. The compilation of class groupings is a process involving many considerations. We deliberate on factors such as academic abilities, individual student needs, gender balance, social considerations, student relationships, friendship networks, parent requests and previous class placements/teachers. Forming class lists is a difficult task for all concerned as occasionally regardless of the care taken someone may be disappointed. Parents are encouraged to have positive conversations with children in the lead up to 2017. Medical Conditions We have had a couple of incidents of children presenting at school recently with medical conditions of which the school has not been made aware. If your child is diagnosed by a General Practitioner (GP) as having a medical condition that could affect their health while at school we need to know about it. The school requires a medical plan written by the GP for some medical conditions. Thank you to parents who diligently keep their children’s medical plans up to date. If you have any questions regarding medical plans please do not hesitate to speak to the school admin. COMO PRIMARY SCHOOL Principal: Mr A. Como Cookout News The Summer Menu is now online and copies are available from the front office and canteen.

If you are ordering at the morning window, keep your eyes out for any Managers Specials listed on our new noticeboard. We are very eager to deliver some exciting Thursday specials this term. These are run entirely by volunteers and help keep the normal menu prices as low as possible. Extra support is essential and there are many ways you can help (counting orders, cutting vegetables and fruit, packaging and bagging meals, delivering meals to pre-primary classes, serving drinks or dessert). If you can spare an hour for our first specials, between 9am - 1pm on Thursday, 3rd November and/or Thursday 17th November we would love to hear from you. We also welcome more support on Wednesdays and Fridays. If you can help for 1-2hrs, once or twice this term, please see Justine at the canteen or get in touch. The Como Cookout could not operate without support and we thank our most recent helpers: Angela Paddick, Jenny Ramshaw, Ingrid Meyer, Ina Buman, Glenice King and Tess Harris. Our next Canteen Committee meeting is Friday, the 28th October at 1.30pm. All are welcome. Any concerns, queries or feedback - please contact us.
