Update from Head of Sports Yaseen Parkar

Assalamu alaikum members, as promised we have a busy summer of events coming up. Hopefully you have got these dates in the diary already – please contact me or any of the sports team if you have any queries:

Race For Life (Ladies) – Sun 22nd May 2016 (Dunstable)

Health Living Day – Sun 29th May 2016 (Challney) – see attached Flyer

Family Fun Day – Sat 6th August 2016 (Challney)

Kokni Games – Sat 17th September 2016 (Challney – TBC)

We will send out reminders by text as usual, nearer the time of each event.

Ladies Swimming

The last session of ladies swimming will take place on Sun 15th May 2016, and will resume after Ramadan (Sunday 10th July). Numbers are fairly consistent so we will try to keep this going.

We are still attempting to book men’s swimming as soon as an appropriate slot becomes available at Denbigh.

Men’s Football

Still going strong, with some of the elder statesmen such as Daud Parkar, Saeed Modak, Anwar Tambe and Iqbal Jhetam making some regular appearances!

Please note that men’s football will not be on, on Sun 29th May due to Health Living Day and will not take place during Ramadan.

Rookie Life Guarding

We have been offered the opportunity to get some of our youngsters trained up to become life guards. Many of our previous youngsters have already trained in the past and it would be good to get many more trained going forward. To be eligible you must be under 16 and be able to swim. A nominal fee of £1 per session may be charged.

Please note that this will be a mixed group of girls and boys, as well as some non-Kokni children.

Funding

Many of the above activities are heavily reliant on grant funding as well as members’ subscriptions. There are still many in arrears for 2015, and 2016 subscriptions are also due. Please make every effort to pay your subs to any committee member. Many activities will cease to continue if we cannot afford to keep them going.

Please note there are still many funding opportunities for women and girls especially, for coaching courses, etc which Sabrina, Nazeema and Jabine will be happy to advise on

Golf Day

The planned Golf Day did not take place in April due to issues with venues (costs in particular) so we are hoping to do the Golf Day in late summer now. Please contact Kashif Dalvi on (07982) 260495, if you are interested.

Assalamu alaikum,

Education News

Assalamu Alaykum

Alhamdullilah we are pleased to report that KCL Madrassa Section for boy & girls has seen a steady improvement in the children’s attendance. The children have increased in there Islamic knowledge and good regular attendance has played a big part.

At the AGM the membership got a taste of what the children have covered. The memberships at the AGM were given a quiz which consisted of 50 questions that the Maktab children had sat. A set of quiz questions was given to the men & Women. The women won the competition by smashing the men. The women got 34 out of 50 questions right. As for the men...paperwork went AWOL.

On Saturday 7th May 2016 a parent’s consultation meeting was held and well attended by parents. Topics covered were around home tuition, attendance, security & outstanding fees. The whole event had received very good & positive feedback

The women’s sections run by Razia are covering Tajweed & Seerah on Tuesdays. The attendance is good and those attending are benefiting from the Islamic knowledge.

If anyone is interested in joining or would like any other topics covered, please contact Razia directly on 07874295358 for women’s education
