Bigger jails, stronger laws and more law enforcement officers are not the answer to the "dis ease” and shootings in our “Communities.” Most will agree that there is a direct correlation between the anger we see displayed amongst our young Men and the absence of their Fathers in their lives. “Better Dads VI” via “The People’s Community Action Radio”, “The People’s CAR” has invited best-selling author and speaker Rick Johnson, founder of Better Dads a fathering skills program designed to inspire and equip Men to be more engaged in their children's lives, to the Virgin Islands from March 22 to 27, 2010. A week of workshops and presentations will also include a unique seminar for all women who interact with boys. “Courageous Moms,”“Raising Boys to Become Good Men” with topics to include; The effects of fatherlessness on boys, Why are boys so different, Communicating with boys, Pitfalls-What to avoid. Because of the Virgin Islands “radio culture” most workshops will be conducted on radio with call in participation from the ‘Community”. These two hour live “radio workshop” discussions will ensure greater “Community” participation and information. Three workshops are planned for St. Croix and St. Thomas to include a presentation to Fathers/Sons of both penal institutions. A combined early evening workshop for St. John The goals/objectives of the Father /Son Bureau of Corrections workshop: To help the Men begin individual healing through forgiveness. Inmates will have an opportunity to invite their Son(s) or Father to the workshop. The volunteer Men of “Community” and Men’s groups will be a liaison/mediator for each Father/Son team before, during and after the workshop. . As a member of the Virgin Islands business “Community” we encourage you to be a part of the “Solution” by Your Community Support Sponsorship of “Better Dads VI” along with other “Community” minded individuals and businesses Join “Better Dads VI” in the challenge to “help strengthen the relationship our Men have with their Fathers, their Sons and with each other”. With your participation, assistance and financial support of $100 or more towards the “Better Dads VI” project, we will begin to stem the anger that we see displayed amongst our young Men.
