The open hours for the Sierra Madre Public Library
will change starting Monday, August 6.

Our regularly scheduled Baby Rhyme Time will move
to Mondays at 9:00 am starting September 10th.
Senior Excursion–Tanaka Farms
August 16th – Tanaka Farms Melon Tour
Cost: $25.00 (not including lunch)
Come experience a real working farm in the heart of Orange County. Tour includes a
wagon ride around the 30 acre farm to see and learn about
how summer fruits and vegetables grow. Taste some delicious
vegetables and melons, and take home a melon of your very
own! For your safety, we recommend wearing long pants and
comfortable shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty. Please
avoid wearing sandals, flip-flops, open-toed shoes, or high
heels. Level of walking: Medium
**Registration for Sierra Madre Residents starts now through
August 6th. Non-Resident Registration starts online or in person
on Tuesday, August 7th, 2018**
Senior Art Program
Hart Park House from 12:30 pm-1:30 pm
August 8th – Acrylic Painting with KT Boyce. We will learn the use of brushes to paint local
flowers and succulents. While learning color theory and understanding the principles of
acyclic paint. It will show you realistic or folk art styles you choose. No prior experience
necessary. Materials and supplies will be provided. Please RSVP by calling 626-355-7394.

Pool Party
August 25
Children grades 1-6 are
challenged to read 40 hours
for the Summer Reading
Program.
Those children who meet the
challenge of 40 reading hours
will be invited, along with their
families, to a special swim party
at the Sierra Madre Pool.
Pre-registration and participa-
tion is required. Please contact
the Library if you do not
receive an expected invitation
to this event.
Last Chance for Reading Buddies
Get reading for the new school year with this wonderful reading opportunity for children. High School volunteers will read
with children ages 5-9 to assist them with maintaining their reading skills over the summer. Bring your kids to the Library,
not only to find books, but to get a Reading Buddy! The last day is Wednesday, August 8.

Explore New Worlds with Virtual Reality
Step in to a different place and time with the new easy-to-use Virtual Reality systems at
the Library. Visitors, age 13 and older, can move into a realistic computer-generated
virtual environment Tuesday evening, August 7, between 5:00 and 7:00 pm. Virtual reality
is a computer system that uses a headset to generate realistic images simulating the
operator’s physical presence in an imaginary environment. Program will resume in
September.

Teen Scene Summer Beat the heat, hang with friends, create art and snack on some treats.
Pajama Movie Afternoon

All summer long, teens who attend the
programs will get to vote for which movie
we choose to watch on this special day.
This celebration is the culmination of our
teen scene summer. Relax, recharge, and
enjoy the last moments of summer.
Teen Volunteer Thank You Party

As a special thank you to our Summer Reading Program Teen Volunteers we
are having an after-hours pizza party at the Sierra Madre Public Library. Addi-
tionally, volunteers will receive a certificate with their name and number of
completed volunteer hours.
