The Palm Beach State College Foundation was incorporated in 1973 with the mission to encourage, solicit, receive and administer philanthropic gifts for the advancement of Palm Beach State Collegeand its objective of maintaining open access to superlative higher education at affordable costs. It is governed by a community-based, volunteer board of directors.
This influential group of leaders work behind the scenes to make certain the Foundation operatesat optimal levels and to serve as ambassadors to the community.
Palm Beach State College relies on private donors to respond to the needs of our community.Private contributions make the critical difference in access to education, scope of programs andquality of academic life.
The funds raised by the Foundation, a separate 501c3 organization, provide much-needed supportfor student scholarships and world-class, academic programs that recognize and retain talentedfaculty. Many programs would not exist without private funding.
The Foundation has established comprehensive programs that address each of the basic tenetsof fundraising: special events, major gifts, annual and planned giving to ensure opportunities aremaximized. Furthermore, its strategic plan is aligned with the College’s 5-year strategic plan.
The Foundation continues to build relationships with high net worth individuals, private foundations, and corporations. Nearly 30 percent of last year’s donors were new or first-time contributors, indicating a true success in engaging new donors and abundant opportunities. As the Foundationremains committed to instituting donor recognition and stewardship programs, great benefitsare realized.
Awareness for the college’s needs continues to build through participation in our numerous annualevents. These include a golf tournament, the Evening in the Garden reception, scholarship dinnerand the newly created STEAM Initiative Luncheon, which featured Apple, Inc. co-founder, SteveWozniak and brought together nearly 700 community leaders and philanthropists.
Thanks to its generous donors, the Foundation continues to grow each year and is able to increaseits support of students, faculty and programs. In 2012, the Foundation provided $2.5 million inscholarships to traditional students.
Provide sufficient funding so everystudent who wants to attend PalmBeach State College can attend!Create a value for learning and self-worth to unite people of all agesand cultures. Empowered studentsbelieve they are accountable toshape how they live and growwithin their communities.

EDUCATION–A WIN-WIN PROPOSITION
I believe in the power of education! I have personally witnessed the benefits that accrue tothose who are able to achieve a college education – increased earnings potential, long-termemployment and a better understanding of complex geo-political issues. Coupled with thebenefits which accrue to the community – economic growth, cultural development and reducedcrime – education is a win-win proposition.
Being reared in a household of educators, I know first-hand the economic challenges presentedto public K-12 schools, colleges and universities seeking to provide superlative educationalopportunities. While I am the only family member not pursuing a career in education, I remaincommitted to ensuring that everyone who desires an education can realize that dream.
I have chosen to perfect my commitment to education by supporting the Palm Beach StateCollege Foundation, the nonprofit organization charged with developing philanthropic supportfor student scholarships and academic programs. The college serves over 49,000degree/certification seeking students annually, of which over 40 percent receive some form offinancial assistance.
As a business executive, a parent and individual, I know my support of Palm Beach StateCollege improves lives, and I am confident the impact will be felt for many generations.
On behalf of the Palm Beach State College Foundation Board of Directors, I am proud toannounce that board members have personally pledged $100,000 to the STEAM initiative.Like you, we understand how vital this initiative is to the future of our community and country.

COMMUNITY SUPPORT–AN 80 YEAR TRADITION
Palm Beach State College has been creating and nurturing community connections for the past 80years. It was a local initiative that launched Palm Beach Junior College back in 1933. Florida’s firstpublic community college was established to meet this community’s need for higher educationopportunities close to home. Through the years, the College has expanded in mission, programs andreach, yet it is still focused on meeting the community needs. And over the last 80 years, membersof our community have demonstrated their appreciation and support of the College throughoutstanding generosity and support in a variety of ways.
Helping students to achieve success gives educators tremendous satisfaction, particularly when thesestudents face significant challenges – cultural, educational or financial. Equally gratifying is seeinghow this community continuously steps up and supports our educational mission.
Individuals and organizations who contribute through the College Foundation say they consider thisan investment in the community. They recognize that an educated population and highly trainedworkforce are critical to economic vitality and to a better quality of life for everyone. Many are alsoalumni of this institution, and they are committed to helping to pave the way for today’s learners.
As we commemorate our 80th anniversary throughout 2013, please know that our students, facultyand staff truly appreciate and honor the enduring support from this great community that we serve.

THE BEST POSSIBLE FUTURE
I have witnessed the life-changing power of higher education; I’ve watched young, rawtalent enter this institution of higher education and exit knowledgeable, matured andprepared to compete in a global economy. The College has the privilege of shapingtomorrow’s leaders, of bringing together our best and brightest along with those eagerto learn.
The Foundation has launched a 5-year STEAM Initiative to provide additional studentscholarships and financially support academic programs in Science, Technology, Math,Arts and Science.
We know the great American dream of working hard, buying a home, rearing a family, educating children and retiring comfortably will not happen, cannot happen on an $8 anhour job. Equally, we know that concentrated efforts to provide education will result in aprofessional workforce ready to assume the jobs waiting in the STEAM fields.
This community both desires and deserves the best possible future. The Foundationremains committed to creating a community that flourishes with a vibrant economic fabricwoven from our most precious resource – young people.
