Myrtue Memorial Hospital d/b/a Myrtue Medical Center, Harlan, Iowa, will receive sealed proposals for an infrastructure renovation. Project Title: Central Utilities Plant and Infrastructure. Project Description: Mechanical and electrical systems replacement throughout the central utilities plant located in the Hospital building at Myrtue Medical Center. The central utilities plant renovation generally includes modifications to existing site utilities, construction of exterior chiller/propane/electrical infrastructure, renovation of plant chilled/heating water production, and various piping installation/demolition throughout the Hospital building. Construction will require careful coordination of the work and effective project management in order to maintain essential Hospital operations throughout the course of the project’s multiple phases. Project located at: 1213 Garfield Ave., Harlan, Iowa until 11:00 a.m.,local time, July 30, 2020, at which time proposals will be opened publicly in the Auble Conference Room located at 1213 Garfield Ave., Harlan Iowa. All proposals shall be submitted to the office of Jeff Sundholm, CIO, 1213 Garfield Ave. Harlan, Iowa 51537. A Pre-Bid Meeting will be held on July 14, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. in the Auble conference room. Qualifying proposals will be reviewed and considered by the Board of Trustees at the Board of Trustees meeting tentatively scheduled for August 4, 2020. All bidders will be required to furnish a bid bond in the amount 5% of the total amount of the bid. Said bond shall be issued by an approved surety. Said bond shall be submitted along with other bid forms. Eldon lived his early life in Elk Creek, NE, before moving to Lincoln, NE. He attended the Uni- versity of Nebraska and Peru State College. Growing up, he was very active in sports including baseball and basketball. He had a career in retail sales and management where he held various positions running retail stores in Nebraska and Iowa. In 1985, Eldon and Shirley moved to South Texas to be closer to their daughter and her family, where they resided for 30 years. During that time, he managed Jones Office Supply in McAllen, TX. They then relocated to Boerne, TX, in 2016. Eldon was an avid Nebraska Cornhuskers fan and enjoyed attending Husker football games and events for more than 70 years. He also loved golfing and fishing and valued the time he spent with his grandchildren, from sporting events and dance re- citals to graduations. He was also a life member of the Falls City Elks Club #963 where he spent time socializing with friends. Eldon passed away on June 23, 2020. He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Shirley Carmine. He is also survived by his one daughter and son-in-law, Jean Ann and Dr. Kurt Mack- ie, of Boerne; four grandchildren: Jonathan (Elizabeth), David (Danielle), Stephen all of Houston, TX, and Mary Mackie Hogan (Matthew) of Waco, TX; as well as one great grandchild, Henry Mackie of Houston. He was one of four children, born to Roy Oscar and Anna Esther (Kline) Hi- bray. His early years were spent in at- tending country school near Allen, SD in the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, graduating from Bennett County High School at Martin, SD and attending Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD for two years. Three years were spent as a Navy pilot in World War II, serv- ing 16 months in the Pacific Theater, primarily in the Philip- pine Islands, flying PBY “Catalina” seaplanes, performing anti- submarine patrols and air-sea rescue missions. Later he was transferred to an Air Transport Squadron flying C-47 Transports. Personnel, including USO troupes, and supplies were flown wherever needed-Australia, New Guinea, Philippines, Formosa, China, Japan, and many Pacific islands. He received a Commercial Pilot’s License for Single and Multi- engine Land and Seaplanes. After his Naval Service, he attend- ed Iowa State University in Ames, IA, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree, with majors in Animal Science and Agronomy. On September 17, 1950, Art was united in marriage to Dona- fae Sindt at the First Christian Church in Ames, IA. Four children were born to this union. Art was employed by Iowa State University as a County Exten- sion Director for ten years, serving in Clarion, Allison, and Web- ster City, Iowa. He worked for six years as a District Salesman for Ralston-Purina Co., St. Louis, MO while residing in Humboldt, IA. He moved to Fairmont, MN and Sun Prairie, WI to accept a position as Area Sales Manager for International Multifoods of Minneapolis, MN, serving Wisconsin and Northern Illinois for ten years. In 1974 he came to Harlan, IA as Manager of the Feed Division for Farm Service Co-op, serving in this capacity until his retirement in 1989. Art was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church in Harlan, serving on many boards and committees. He was active in the Harlan Golden K Kiwanis Club, was a member of the Vet- erans of Foreign Wars, and American Legion. Art is survived by children Dennis (Debbie) of DePere, WI; Douglas (Rita) of Fall Creek, WI; Rob (Dale) of Nashville, TN; Blake (Linda) of Wake Forest, NC; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Funeral Services were held at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan on Friday, June 26, 2020. Sawmill Rd., Avoca, IA Carrie Laurene Rees 96 Apr. 18, 1924 – Jun. 27, 2020 AVOCA - Carrie Laurene Rees was born on April 8, 1924, to Jorgen and Anna (Hansen) Bonnesen in Verdigre, NE. She graduated in May of 1941 and received her RN Degree from Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing in Sioux City, IA. On October 6, 1951, Carrie was united into marriage to Daniel Rees at Forbes Air Force Base in Topeka, KS. Two children were born to this union: Randy and Anna Belle. After Daniel’s retirement from the military, they settled in Avoca, IA to raise their two children. In Avoca, Carrie and Daniel purchased the Sportsman Restaurant and ran it from 1970-1973. In August 2008, they moved to Primrose Retirement Community in Council Bluffs. Daniel passed away in 2010 and Carrie moved to Avoca Specialty Care in 2019. Carrie passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2020 at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, IA, having attained the age of ninety- six years, two months and nineteen days. She was preceded in death by her parents Jorgen and Anna; husband Daniel; and siblings Hans, Vera and Emma. Left to cherish the wonderful memories are her children Randy (Jennifer) Rees of Harlan; Anna Belle (Tim) Mills of Dupont, WA; grandchildren Daniel (Tanya) Rees; Jacqueline (Brian) Meyer; James (Lindsey) Mills; Alison (Nate) Harmon; 9 great grandchil- dren; nieces and nephews, other family and friends. An 11:00 AM memorial service was held on Tuesday, July 7, 2020 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Avoca with Rev. Eric Meissner officiating. He graduated from Norwell High School in Norwell, MA. In April 1985, Mark married Jodi Lynn Gorichs in Quincy. The couple raised three children; they were married for 17 years before divorcing. Mark moved with his family to Elk Horn, IA, in 1998, where he worked in the maintenance department at Salem Lutheran Homes for many years. He later worked as an area handyman. Mark was a former member of the Elk Horn Lutheran Church in Elk Horn. He enjoyed reading and listening to country music. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. Mark J. Melanson died on Monday, July 6, 2020, at his home in Elk Horn. He had reached the age of 62 years, 9 months, and 14 days. Mark was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Peter Melanson, and one sister, June Melanson. He is survived by one daughter, Emily Melanson of Elk Horn; two sons, Jason (Kris- ten) Melanson of Elk Horn, and Christopher (Kelsie) Melanson of Griswold, IA; one sister, Lauren Sparks; three brothers, Gary Melanson, Bruce Melanson, and Bryan Melanson; six grandchil- dren; and other relatives and friends. HARLAN - Arthur James Hibray was born May 7, 1924 in Martin, SD. He was one of four children, born to Roy Oscar and Anna Esther (Kline) Hi-bray. His early years were spent in at-tending country school near Allen, SD in the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, graduating from Bennett County High School at Martin, SD and attending Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD for two years.

Three years were spent as a Navy pilot in World War II, serv-ing 16 months in the Pacific Theater, primarily in the Philip-pine Islands, flying PBY “Catalina” seaplanes, performing anti-submarine patrols and air-sea rescue missions. Later he was transferred to an Air Transport Squadron flying C-47 Transports. Personnel, including USO troupes, and supplies were flown wherever needed-Australia, New Guinea, Philippines, Formosa, China, Japan, and many Pacific islands.

He received a Commercial Pilot’s License for Single and Multi-engine Land and Seaplanes. After his Naval Service, he attend-ed Iowa State University in Ames, IA, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree, with majors in Animal Science and Agronomy.

On September 17, 1950, Art was united in marriage to Dona-fae Sindt at the First Christian Church in Ames, IA. Four children were born to this union.

Art was employed by Iowa State University as a County Exten-sion Director for ten years, serving in Clarion, Allison, and Web-ster City, Iowa. He worked for six years as a District Salesman for Ralston-Purina Co., St. Louis, MO while residing in Humboldt, IA. He moved to Fairmont, MN and Sun Prairie, WI to accept a position as Area Sales Manager for International Multifoods of Minneapolis, MN, serving Wisconsin and Northern Illinois for ten years. In 1974 he came to Harlan, IA as Manager of the Feed Division for Farm Service Co-op, serving in this capacity until his retirement in 1989.

Art was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church in Harlan, serving on many boards and committees. He was active in the Harlan Golden K Kiwanis Club, was a member of the Vet-erans of Foreign Wars, and American Legion.

Art is survived by children Dennis (Debbie) of DePere, WI; Douglas (Rita) of Fall Creek, WI; Rob (Dale) of Nashville, TN; Blake (Linda) of Wake Forest, NC; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Funeral Services were held at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan on Friday, June 26, 2020. Burial was in the Harlan Cem-etery with Chad, Josh, Brad, Valerie, Aaron Hibray and Laurie Clayton serving as pallbearers. Pauley Jones Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

AVOCA - Carrie Laurene Rees was born on April 8, 1924, to Jorgen and Anna (Hansen) Bonnesen in Verdigre, NE. She graduated in May of 1941 and received her RN Degree from Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing in Sioux City, IA.

On October 6, 1951, Carrie was united into marriage to Daniel Rees at Forbes Air Force Base in Topeka, KS. Two children were born to this union: Randy and Anna Belle.

After Daniel’s retirement from the military, they settled in Avoca, IA to raise their two children. In Avoca, Carrie and Daniel purchased the Sportsman Restaurant and ran it from 1970-1973. In August 2008, they moved to Primrose Retirement Community in Council Bluffs. Daniel passed away in 2010 and Carrie moved to Avoca Specialty Care in 2019.

Carrie passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2020 at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, IA, having attained the age of ninety-six years, two months and nineteen days. She was preceded in death by her parents Jorgen and Anna; husband Daniel; and siblings Hans, Vera and Emma.

Left to cherish the wonderful memories are her children Randy (Jennifer) Rees of Harlan; Anna Belle (Tim) Mills of Dupont, WA; grandchildren Daniel (Tanya) Rees; Jacqueline (Brian) Meyer; James (Lindsey) Mills; Alison (Nate) Harmon; 9 great grandchil-dren; nieces and nephews, other family and friends.

An 11:00 AM memorial service was held on Tuesday, July 7, 2020 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Avoca with Rev. Eric Meissner officiating. Inurnment was held at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, IA on Wednesday, July 8, 2020.

Mark James Melanson

ELK HORN - Mark James Melanson, son of Ralph and Helen (Walsh) Melanson, was born on September 22, 1957, in Quincy, MA. He graduated from Norwell High School in Norwell, MA. In April 1985, Mark married Jodi Lynn Gorichs in Quincy. The couple raised three children; they were married for 17 years before divorcing.

Mark moved with his family to Elk Horn, IA, in 1998, where he worked in the maintenance department at Salem Lutheran Homes for many years. He later worked as an area handyman.

Mark was a former member of the Elk Horn Lutheran Church in Elk Horn. He enjoyed reading and listening to country music. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Mark J. Melanson died on Monday, July 6, 2020, at his home in Elk Horn. He had reached the age of 62 years, 9 months, and 14 days.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Peter Melanson, and one sister, June Melanson. He is survived by one daughter, Emily Melanson of Elk Horn; two sons, Jason (Kris-ten) Melanson of Elk Horn, and Christopher (Kelsie) Melanson of Griswold, IA; one sister, Lauren Sparks; three brothers, Gary Melanson, Bruce Melanson, and Bryan Melanson; six grandchil-dren; and other relatives and friends.
