DTSC – Who are we and what we do?

• Regulatory agency within the California Environmental Protection Agency (Cal/EPA)

• Protect the public and the environment from harmful exposure to hazardous substances releases

• Involved in investigation and cleanup of over 1,000 contaminated properties in California since 1981

• Formerly used as an oil waste dump

• Operations began in 1926 and ceased in mid-1950s

• In 1996, developed as golf-learning facility

• Golf-learning facility closed in 2016, and property has been vacant since
