Who We Are A community development/ neighbourhood organization that began in 1978 Higher concentration of social-economic needs Strengths based with a focus on determinants of health Located in the City of Cambridge, Ontario 100 km west of Toronto Focus on community involvement, prevention and health promotion Multi-funded organization Successfully accredited on 5 occasions

History of the Langs Hub Purchased land in 2007

Granted $4.9 million from the Federal Government and $3 million from the City of Cambridge in June 2010 to build a community centre. 58,000 sq. ft facility that includes a living wall, a green roof, walking track and gymnasium as well as many meeting spaces. Designed by Roberston Simons Architects and built by Melloul-Blamey Construction Ground breaking in October 2010 - Moved in September 2011.

North Dumfries Satellite Hub

Partnered with the Township of North Dumfries in their vision to create a multi-purpose community complex CHC satellite is located in the unique recreation complex includes, walking track, banquet hall, ice surface and program rooms

Words of Advice Variations of hub models have been around for years Just because its called a hub doesn’t mean it’s a hub Hubs should be self-sustaining Co-location is different that integration Relationships are key Risk taking is required Every neighbourhood doesn’t need a hub The vision should be larger than school hubs A provincial consultation process followed by policy is needed
