Regardless of how we voted, let us join together this Martin Luther King weekend, the advent of the Inaugura-tion of our first President of Afro-American ancestry, and ask for God’s blessing upon Barack Obama. (Deacon Lucien)

Inaugural Prayer for President Barack Obama

Dear Lord,

We ask for your blessing upon President Barack Obama.

Guide him with your wisdom and mercy, help him be insightful, courageous and compassionate.

May Our Lady of Peace protect him and his family — Michelle, Malia Ann and Sasha — from all harm. May he draw together black and white, brown and yellow, Red and Blue, male and female, gay and straight, right and left.

Help him listen to the needs of the poor, the unem-ployed, the immigrant, the sick and aged, the soldier and the wounded, and to hear the heartbeat of the Unborn.

May he follow your most Holy Will.

We ask this in the name of Jesus, your Son and our Savior.

Amen

Newman Book Club Wednesday, February 4, 7:30 p.m.

Reading works of fiction by authors with Catholic sensibilities

Mr. Blue, Myles Connolly

The mysterious and magnetic J. Blue spends his inherited wealth as soon as he gets it and lives in a packing box on a New York City rooftop. This beloved novel about a contemporary St. Francis figure, first published in 1928, has intrigued countless readers for decades.

“Come Walk in My Shoes”, a documen-tary, follows the Honorable John Lewis on an emotional pilgrimage to the churches, parks and bridges where young people played a pivotal role in the struggle for equality and voting rights.

A fresh perspective on the non-violent pro-tests that challenged segregation laws in the South and led to the passage of the Voting Rights Act in 1965.

Come join us for all or part of the event — film, pizza, conversation. Newman Catholic Center, Burke Lounge. “SMSJ” is facilitated by graduates of the JustFaith pro-gram. For more information call 413-548-9446.
