On Tuesday March 2 at 7 pm, a Lenten Penance Service will be celebrated here at Newman Center Chapel. Many priests will be available to hear confessions.

Taizé Prayer Monday March 1, 2010

Taizé Prayer is an ecumenical prayer ser-vice, in which the chapel is lit only by candlelight. The haunting refrains of the simple musical melodies and harmonies will uplift you and allow God to guide your heart. Contact the NSA Spirituality coordinators to assist in any way.

“Tuesday’s at 4:00” with Deacon Lucien GSYP students are welcome to gather in Deacon Lucien’s office the Tuesday’s of Lent, from 4 - 5 pm. The hour will be one of group spiri-tual direction, following a ‘lectio divina’ format -- a reading (Gospel of the day), my reflection, group sharing, and silent meditation-- with 15 minutes devoted to each. The introductory meeting is Tuesday Feb-ruary 25. After that, students may come each week or to a Tuesday of their choosing. The same format will be followed each week. Blessed Lent, Deacon Lucien

Join Dr. Liz Carr for a weekly discussion exploring the spiritual teachings of the great Catholic mystic and Doctor of the Church, St. Teresa of Avila. 1. Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of abstinence from meat as well as days of fast, when only one full meal is allowed. On days of fast two other meatless meals may be taken ac-cording to one’s needs, but together they should not equal another full meal.

2. The other Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence from meat.

3. The obligation to abstain from meat begins at fourteen (14) years of age.

4. The obligation to fast begins at eighteen (18) years of age and ends at fifty-nine (59) years of age.

5. Although the faithful may excuse themselves for a just cause from these laws of fast and abstinence, there is an obligation to substitute another penance and no Catholic should lightly excuse himself/herself from this obligation in the Lenten season.
