JANUARY 2012 MONTHLY COMMUNION Sundays in the South Once again, St. Luke’s members and friends can attend their home church away from home, in the sunny cli- mate of southwest Florida. Come worship at North Naples United Methodist Church in Naples, Florida on six Sundays at 11AM with other St. Luke’s folks. Many thanks to the staff and congregation of North Naples UMC for extending this hospitality to us year after year. See the articles on Sundays in the South and the Habitat for Humanity Florida work trips in the January- March 2012 issue of St. Luke’s T.I.M.E. magazine, available at the church or online at www.stlukes- umc.com/news&calendars/publications. Now that the holidays are over, the world will be turning its attention to Indianapolis as we proudly host Super Bowl XLVI on Sunday, February 5, 2012. On January 8, we will launch our first sermon series of 2012, “The Greatest Game.” In his letter to the church at Philippi, Paul writes, as he describes working toward having a fuller relationship with Jesus, “Not that I have already obtained this or have already reached the goal; but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. Beloved, I do not consider that I have made it my own; but this one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on towards the goal for the prize of the heavenly call of God in Christ Jesus.” What are our goals in pursuing a more Christ-like existence? How do we play the “game” that we call life? Join us as we examine these and other life questions. Seeing the Unseen St. Luke’s emphasis for 2012 will be to consider what it means to see the unseen. What is the unseen future God has for us? What are the possibilities? What are the tangible ways God would have us share His love that make an impact in people’s lives near and far? “Seeing the Unseen” will be our theme this year. When we ask, “Where would God have us go in the coming decade?” what do you see? Tomorrow’s reality will come from that! Stay tuned for more information on the opportunities we will have to learn and grow as we journey together in ministry everyday in 2012. This year’s dates are: JANUARY 15 with Rev. Rob Fuquay (in conjunction with the Naples Habitat for Humanity work project) JANUARY 22 with Rev. Marsha Hutchinson JANUARY 29 with Rev. David Williamson FEBRUARY 5 with Rev. January at The TrackThis month’s virtue is Self-Control: Choosing to do what youshould do, not what you want to do. The memory verse is:“My dear brothers and sisters, pay attention to what I say.Everyone should be quick to listen. But they should be slowto speak. They should be slow to get angry.” JAMES 1:19,NIV. This month, we will think about how: (1) We can displayself-control as a response to God; (2) God empowers us withself-control to respond wisely; and (3) God uses self-controlin us to influence our families, friends, and neighbors. Remember: A virtue is something God does in us to changethe world around us.

Elementary students will share in communion on January 29at 9:30 and 11AM. Parents are welcome to join their chil-dren for this special service. Please contact Rev. JamalynPeigh Williamson if you have questions, at [email protected].
