Mind Map

Mind Map• Strengths of using this method

– Easy to make a tree branching off into multiple ideas and ways of producing your advert, you can slam a lot of ideas onto it at once.

• Weaknesses of using this method– You never have a specific idea to focus on so the whole thing

can become very convoluted and just end up being a big waste of time.

• Did you like using this method? Why? - It is good as somewhere to start, but it is better to only use it to get down all your ideas as fast as possible.

Mood BoardMinimalistic style.

I chose this type of advert as it is very appealing to the eye, gets the point across without having to explain, it can do this due to the international recognition of the brand however, so it really only work in circumstances such as this one.

Mood BoardPop Art Style

Very traditional approach to advertising, could be effective when used to pertain to an older audience, someone who grew up with these kinds of adverts could have some form of nostalgia for the adverts and want to buy some coke…

Mood board

Celebrity Endorsed Ad’s

Some adverts use celebs to promote the subject, because if they use it, then so should you.

Mood BoardFestivities

This form of advertising works during the various holidays throughout the year, by associating the product to a holiday the product becomes instantly more popular. As it gains recognition not only from the other advertisements throughout the year, but from this type also, this

Mood Board• Strengths of using this method - Very easy to produce. - Get a general idea of what the best style of ad you want to create from the various different types you can put into a mood board.• Weaknesses of using this method - Can’t get as many self made ideas onto the board as it is mainly based around observing other adverts that have been produced over time.• Did you like using this method? Why? - Yes, as it was very simple to make and easy to come up with new ideas.

Style SheetColour Scheme:

This type of design is the newest form of coca cola advert, it is very minimalist, but uses some of the old font types as the classic adverts.

The flick below the text is a common feature of the coca cola logo.

Style Sheet• Strengths of using this method

– You can personally decide what fonts and what colour scheme you would like to use as a definitive choice.

– During the research for the style sheet you get an idea of your options from templates.

– Good for planning a final design but not good for coming up with ideas.• Weaknesses of using this method

– Not as diverse as some of the other methods, not very broad, and you only get a basic idea of what you want to do for your product.

• Did you like using this method? Why? - It is too simple. You don’t have enough room to observe many other ideas and it seems to lead to a rut, but it could just be for basic products that don’t really have such a diverse market when it comes to advertising (basic colour schemes and design elements each time).

Layout Plan• Strengths of using this method

– Gives you a good idea of the layout of the product for when you decide to do your main design.

– It’s faster than most other methods.– You can make multiple simple ones to try different advertising styles and see which

ones you prefer/can do best.• Weaknesses of using this method

– You have to use other methods of planning before you use this method, or you will really not have anywhere to start.

– You can’t create new ideas from this method as it is focused around presenting only a couple of already planned out pieces.

• Did you like using this method? Why? - It was good as it allowed you to build a basic idea of what your poster would look like in very simple detail, which is good as you can see what looks good and what doesn’t, however you do require to have done previous planning, otherwise you might struggle to come up with ideas.

Basic Rules

Brainstorm• Strengths of using this method

– Group effort, easier to get more done– Creates different viewpoints– Clearly laid out ideas – Can see ideas being developed through discussion

• Weaknesses of using this method - Can end up with way too many random ideas with nothing to build on - Not much detail, only random thoughts• Did you like using this method? Why? - It had a lot of benefits, such as collaborating to come up with ideas as this saved so much time, and it was pretty easy to come to a conclusion on which idea you could use.

Informal Pitch

Informal Pitch• Strengths of using this method

– It helped to confirm and certify the planning– Simple – Doesn’t take much time

• Weaknesses of using this method– Very basic doesn’t help that much– Gained no new ideas, or anything to add to the current project.

• Did you like using this method? Why? - It worked because it was simple and easy but it didn’t add anything to the list of ideas, it was merely just presenting the ideas to be evaluated, there was nothing to add to the ideas that had already been created, so it didn’t help.

Group Idea Generation

Retro to high qualityOld camcorder to new dslr..

Group Idea Generation

Group Idea Generation• Strengths of using this method

– Fast– Simple– Can create lots of ideas in a short period of time– Can easily get expansions and opinions on ideas

• Weaknesses of using this method– Sometimes not everyone agrees on ideas.– Opinions can clash.

• Did you like using this method? Why? - Yes, it was simple to come up with ideas and build upon them.

Formal Pitch

Formal Pitch• Strengths of using this method

– Confirms planning and makes the planning come to a final form/idea.– Allows you to decide on other factors of the production like the mediums of

broadcast and the legal issues involved.– Doesn’t take too much time to complete.

• Weaknesses of using this method– Doesn’t add anything to the planning– No room for reprimand of ideas or changes, only reaffirming the ideas. – Doesn’t go into great detail about the actual filming of the production only talks

about the story.• Did you like using this method? Why? - Yes, it helped to bring all the ideas together and come up with a final project, however it didn’t add much to the overall plan.

Storyboards

Storyboards

Storyboards• Strengths of using this method

– Confirms ideas– Helps to visualise the scenes– Helps get an idea of how you are going to shoot the film– Helps you understand the kind of post production work you will need to do– Helps to decide on shot types and camera angles, as you are looking at the scene from the

pov of the camera• Weaknesses of using this method

– Nothing is added to the overall method, you can only change things from the original draft– The detail of the story board is dependant on the people in the groups drawing abilities – Sometimes you can’t really visualise certain things in the scene

• Did you like using this method? Why? - Storyboarding helped to visualise the scenes of the film so, in that sense, it was a good method, but it didn’t add any ideas or bring anything to the table so, it can only be used as a post-planning-plan….

Initial Reaction• Pixel Art• Coca Cola based• Has to advertise/promote coca cola

Initial Reaction

• Strengths of using this method– n/a

• Weaknesses of using this method– Adds nothing to the discussion, only is a simple

brief• Did you like using this method? Why?– No It was pretty much useless

Sketches

Sketches

• Strengths of using this method– Gives you a basic idea of how your characters

should look– Allows you to have a point of reference when

drawing your final 16 bit characters• Weaknesses of using this method– More often than not the end product is different

from the planning sketches• Did you like using this method? Why?

Formal ProposalStrengths of using this method• Helps create an idea of the primary audience, secondary audience and genre• Takes into consideration legal and ethical issues• Decides the medium of broadcast and languageWeakness of using this method• Adds very little to discussion• Doesn’t form new ideas, only reinforces them
