1. AN/PRC-148 FAMILY OF RADIOSThe AN/PRC-148(V)*(C) hand held radio family provides a contiguous 30 to 512MHz frequency range in a small, lightweight package, it is less than 33 ounces in weight and 34 cubic inches in volume.

AM and FM modes are provided for voice or data, with selectable RF output power from 0.1 to 5 Watts. 56kbps is the maximum data rate. The radio supports the selective, sub-audible tone Continuous Tone Coded Squelch System (CTCSS).

The ‘Maritime’ configuration of the radio is immersible in salt water to 20 meters for two hours. To withstand 20m immersion, this radio uses a piezoelectric transducer, not a loudspeaker.

The ‘Urban’ configuration of the radio is immersible in salt water to two meters for 30 minutes.

THE AN/PRC-148B MBITR2

The next generation leader radio providing the dismounted soldier with the ability to integrate and communicate in SRW in Secret and Below (SAB) while simultaneously maintaining communication with existing fielded equipment using the narrowband capability in the radio. The narrowband capability of the radio retains interoperability with SINCGARS, VHF/UHF LOS, HAVEQUICK and BLOS (TACSAT/IW) waveforms. The system is fully integrated with an embedded GPS.

THE AN/PRC-148C IMBITR (TYPE1)

The Thales TH310/TH315 solution is a significantly enhanced version of the widely fielded AN/PRC-148 JEM radio. The TH310/TH315 offers all of the existing functionally of the current JEM radio with the addition of the TrellisWare® TSM wideband networking waveform capability. A variant of TSM waveform has been selected by USSOCOM as its next generation MANET waveform. Within a single, small, lightweight, rugged package, the user is provided simultaneous narrowband and wideband communications capabilities necessary to support tactical command and control communications in a variety of challenging radio operating environments.

The TH310/TH315 provides wideband MANET coverage, regardless of the environment and ensures interoperability with users that operate both TrellisWare and Thales radio systems. The robust TSM networked waveform has been field proven and provides superior voice and data communications across harsh multipath and highly dynamic environments, such as shipboard, caves and urban operational settings.

BATTERY CHARGERSThe Expeditionary Modular Universal Battery Charger (eMUBC) solution is a scalable charging system that charges a wide range of military and commercial batteries, and also provides for the addition of new batteries through software upgradability and an innovative modular design. The base unit weighs approximately 6 pounds, is small enough to be carried in a ruck sack, and is rugged enough to be vehicle mounted. Multiple eMUBC charging systems can be cascaded without requiring any tools. This system is based on technology from field-proven trials, and allows charging in heavy rain, and other harsh environmental conditions, without cover. The charger is optimized to provide the warfighter with the ability to harvest power from solar panels, and scavenge power from batteries (cable-free) and a variety of other power sources.

The eMUBC combines the functions and capabilities of multiple battery chargers into one small, scalable package. It provides battery charging technology to the warfighter through a highly rugged, field-deployable, multi-battery modular solution for austere mission environments. The eMUBC has a built-in battery test/

analyzer function that allows the user to display the “health” of batteries in a matter of seconds.

The Modular Bulk Charger (MBC) is a bulk charger solution for charging multiple U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) batteries including AN/PRC-148B*, AN/PRC-152, AN/PRC-154, BB-2590, and others. The MBC reduces the logistic footprint and costs when charging large numbers of batteries. The MBC is designed using a modular charging cup concept to allow charging combinations of multiple DoD batteries. The charger’s architecture is based on the fielded Modular Universal Battery Charger (MUBC) with the same familiar and simple user interface. Because the MBC uses the same architecture as the MUBC, it provides all advanced features provided by the MUBC, such as State of Health, State of Charge, and dynamic power distribution for every installed battery. The MBC operates from both AC and DC with cables provided with each system. It provides 8 USB ports for charging Smart Phones and Tablets.

Three charging cup variations are currently available: AN/PRC-148, AN/PRC-152, AN/PRC-154. New charging cup variants can be designed based on specific customer needs

DESK TOP BATTERY CHARGERS:

1600654-1, Single Slot, AC only, Battery Charger, NSN 6130-01-512-0183Charges one Thales’ Lithium-Ion Rechargeable battery, input 90 to 264V AC power, 40VA maximum. This charger only recommended for desktop use.

Standard NEMA 5-15 3-pin AC power cable provided to a ‘laptop PC style’ power supply which in-turn connects to the charger.

There is an intelligent micro-controller interface between the battery and the charger = ‘smart charger’, charge time takes into account battery cell and ambient temperatures. COMMON ADAPTER FOR THE JEM AND MBITR 20M SUBMERSIBLE MARITIME RADIOS

3600190-1, Keyfill Adapter, NSN 5995-01-487-114910-pin to 6-pin adapter, approximately 2.53 inches long, for the 20m Maritime radio, this allows the radio to be key-filled with a standard 6-pin connector key-fill device, such as the CYZ-10, KYK-13 and SKL. We do not recommend the operational use of the adapter for regular 6-pin connector audio accessories; the radio is vulnerable to damage if the 10-pin connector on the radio is snapped off. A radio with a damaged 10-pin connector will require an extensive, expensive repair.

DUAL VEHICLE ADAPTER AMPLIFIER (VAA) CONFIGURATIONS

AN/VRC-111, MA7036 20W Vehicle Adapter Amplifier (VAA), NSN 5820-01-536-0983The original AN/VRC-111 VAA nomenclature was assigned in 2005 for the first dual VA configuration, at that time Thales supplied MBITRs to be installed in the 20W VAs. Thales no longer manufactures MBITRs so JTRS Enhanced MBITRs = JEMs are provided, see configurations below.

MA7036-HTB JEM Vehicle Adapter Amplifier [VAA], no NSNTwo 20W VAs mounted on an Interface Tray, two Urban AN/PRC-148[V]4[C] JTRS Enhanced MBITR [JEM] are included. The VAA Interface Tray installs on a standard MT-6352A/VRC SINCGARS mounting base [NSN 5973-01-304-2050]. The all-up weight of the VAA with a radio installed in each VA is 38lb.Power draw, 20 to 32V DC, 240W/channel with 20W RF output.

Each VA provides 20W transmit power across the 30 to 512MHz frequency range. The 20W RF outputs are compatible with existing SINCGARS vehicle mount antennae for 30 to 88MHz operation, as well as various broadband, 30 to 512MHz frequency range antennae. 24V DC power typically provided from the vehicle. Each VA includes integrated harmonic filters and tunable co-site filters.

AIRBORNE EXPEDIENT RETRANSMISSION KIT

The Expedient Retransmit Kit, designed for airborne applications, uses two PRC6809 Multiband Inter/Intra Team Radios (MBITR) without batteries. Developed to meet the more size, weight, and power (SWAP) dependent Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) uses, the Expedient Retransmit Kit provides full retransmission capabilities, including optional ECCM, in a minimum SWAP package to extend radio linkage or overcome obstacles that prevent line-of-sight operation. The repeater function is non-CCI and crypto transparent.

Two versions are available, with and without the PRC6809 radios.
