What to Expect in 2014

What is the process?

1. Organizations submit Letters of Intent to Apply for Grant Funding via email

2. The Morgan Fund Advisory Committee and Foundation staff review all Letters of Intent and invites selected organizations to submit a Final Application

3. Invited organizations submit Final Applications via online system

4. The Morgan Fund Advisory Committee and Foundation staff review all Final Applications and select organizations to receive site visits

5. The Morgan Fund Advisory Committee and Foundation staff members conduct site visits

What is the process?

6. The Morgan Fund makes funding recommendations

7. Funding recommendations are made to the Foundation’s Board of Directors and grants are awarded

8. Organizations receiving grants will be required to submit an End of Grant report and photos within 12 months of the grants being awarded

Eligibility Requirements

1. Must be located and/or providing services within Morgan County. All funds from the Morgan Fund grants must be spent within Morgan County; Priority will be given to organizations located in Morgan County.

2. Be classified by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service under Section 501(c)(3) of the I.R.S. code as a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization, donations to which are deductible as charitable contributions under Section 170 (c)(2) and the I.R.S. determination must be current;

3. Be registered with the Georgia Secretary of State as a nonprofit;

4. Have filed their final reports as specified in the grant agreement if a former Morgan Fund grant recipient (contact [email protected] with questions);

5. Have a Board of Directors where all members donate cash or financially measureable in-kind contributions each fiscal year;

6. Have a Board of Directors with representation from the community served and committee structure that ensures the necessary mix of skills to succeed;

7. National organizations with a local chapter or

affiliates:

Preference will be given to local chapters/affiliates that can

demonstrate control over their finances and operations, and

those that have a local governing board.

8. Financial requirements: • Organizations must have audited or reviewed financial

statements that follow Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) or Government Auditing Standards (GAS) for the past two completed fiscal years as required by budget size. Organizations with annual budgets over $250,000 must have audited financial statements;

• Organizations with annual budgets between $100,000 and $249,999 must have reviewed financial statements;

• For organizations with operating budgets below $100,000 your non-reviewed or unaudited financial statements will be accepted. However, preference will be given to those organizations that do have reviewed or audited financial statements.

9. Strategic or Business Plan requirements:

Current strategic or business plan.

If your organization does not have a strategic or business plan please complete the Strategic Planning Form that can be found on the Foundations website. This form is provided to allow organizations who do not have a current strategic plan to be competitive with organizations that do meet the eligibility criteria and can provide a strategic plan during the final application review phase.

Ineligible organizations

The following organizations are not eligible to apply for funding:

•  Private and publicly funded schools (K-12) and institutions of higher learning. This does not include nonprofit charter schools;

• Organizations that raise funds for publicly funded schools (K-12) and institutions of higher learning;

• Organizations that provide religious services and/or religious education;

• Organizations that have discriminatory policies and/or practices on the basis of race, color, national origin, age, disability, sex, marital status, familial status, parental status, religion, sexual orientation, genetic information or political beliefs; and

• Organizations that have not filed end of grant reports for

previous Morgan Fund grants; 

Ineligible Uses of Foundation Funds

Foundation funds may not be used to support the following:

•  Fundraising and marketing events;

•  Endowment funds;

•  Capital campaign contributions (for building construction or renovation) or use of funds to cover capital campaign feasibility studies or campaign implementation expenses. This does not include regular maintenance and capital improvements.

• Prior to submitting, review the Morgan Fund grant guidelines. Download the Guidelines at www.cfgreateratlanta.org for more details;

• To be considered, applicants must submit the Letter of Intent by 12:00 noon on the deadline date. Letters of Intent that are received after that time will be declined as late;

• This Letter of Intent is part of an open competition. After reviewing all Letters of Intent, the Morgan Fund Advisory Board and Foundation staff will select applicants for more in-depth review and will invite them to submit Final Applications. The Morgan Fund makes its decision to select a proposal for more in-depth review based on the content of the LOI alone. Do not include any attachments;

• The Morgan Fund does not provide ongoing funding. However, an organizations can receive funding for a maximum of two consecutive years before waiting at least one year to reapply;

• Organizations that are declined may apply again by the next deadline, if they wish. The Foundation does not view applicants that have been declined in any adverse way. If an applicant is declined, that organization might contact the Foundation for more detailed feedback.
