b) Instructional strategies to support the learning of all pupils, including English learners, pupils with disabilities, and underperforming pupils

c) Instructional strategies that promote creativity, innovation, critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration, and communication skills in all academic content areas

After you view the media and read the excerpt, think about the following questions:• What affirmed the things you already do in your instructional practice?

What was new for you, or what was done in a different way than you’re familiar with?

• In what ways do the instructional practices you viewed support language and literacy development for English learners? How might the teachers use the CA ELD Standards as a guide to provide appropriate levels of scaffolding for EL students at different English language proficiency levels?

• What instructional practices might you try out in your own classroom? How would you adjust the practices to ensure you’re meeting the needs of your EL students, and in particular, the focal student you identified?
