Task 1: On Target Students try to direct shots into target areas to score as many points as possible. The court is divided into 4 zones on each side and the students aim to score points by hitting the shuttlecock into these zones so that their opponent can’t return it. Students work in 4’s taking on different roles; 2 players, 1 umpire, 1 evaluator, rotate round these. Emphasis is to be placed on students’ ability to evaluate the performers ability. Task 2: Long & Thin OR Short & Fat This task involves students selecting the correct badminton shot in order to hit a target, inevitably trying to move their opponents around the court in order to create spaces in which to attack. Working in groups of 4, students select their own court area: either long and thin with targets at the front and back or short and fat with targets at the sides. They then rally in pairs, trying to hit the targets on their oppo- nent’s side of the court as many times as possible; whilst the other pair is evaluating their performance. Students should also devise a scoring system and evaluate it and adapt it accordingly. Task 1: On Target

Students try to direct shots into target areas to score as many points as possible. The court is divided into 4

zones on each side and the students aim to score points by hitting the shuttlecock into these zones so that

their opponent can’t return it. Students work in 4’s taking on different roles; 2 players, 1 umpire, 1 evaluator,

move their opponents around the court in order to create spaces in which to attack.

Working in groups of 4, students select their own court area: either long and thin with targets at the front and

back or short and fat with targets at the sides. They then rally in pairs, trying to hit the targets on their oppo-

nent’s side of the court as many times as possible; whilst the other pair is evaluating their performance.

Students should also devise a scoring system and evaluate it and adapt it accordingly.

Adaptations and Variations

The shuttle must go over the net so many times before it is in competitive play
