PARISH NEWSLETTER: BODY & BLOOD OF CHRIST SUNDAY, 2nd/3rd JUNE 18

THE MOST HOLY BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST

Over the life-time of our world many generous people have gifted the world with amazing gifts. We can all think of buildings, music and inventions of many kinds that have made our world a better place. Today we recall the most amazing gift the world has ever or will ever receive.

We celebrate the gift Jesus has given us. He not only gave his life for us but he gives us his Body and Blood as food in the Eucharist. Scientists tell us that when we eat something it becomes part of us. In the Eucharist Jesus gives us himself so we become part of him. He offers himself so we are drawn into the very life of God. As Christ, he is the Son of God. When we receive him as food, we become the adopted daughters and sons of God himself. Through the Eucharist, God becomes our Father in a new way.

We already have a great dignity by being created by God. For those of us chosen to be the disciples of Jesus that dignity is enhanced by our Baptisms when Jesus shares his own life with us. But through Holy Communion he strengthens us to be his presence in our world in a special way. He is asking us to think the way he thinks, to speak the way he speaks and to do things the way he showed us to do them.

God our Father sent his Son into the world to remind us he wants us to be with him for ever in eternity. With this knowledge to guide us he wants us to make our world a better place. Is our family, our neighbourhood, our country a better place because we live there? If not why not?
