The SPEAKER Provost and Vice Chancellor Bill Meyer

Provost and Vice Chancellor Bill Meyer has announced his retirement from the number two post at UWSP.

He will retire in July ofter serving the university since 1968, including tenure as provost and vice chancellor since April 1997 and another 18 months as interim in that position.

"Bill Meyer has been an outstanding provost," said Chancellor Tom George. "With Bill goes a substantive and important piece of our institutional history. Part of that history is leadership . Bill has provided Academic Affairs, and UWSP overall, with exceptional leadership. We will all miss his guidance and wisdom. "

"In the more than 30 years at UWSP, I have had a lifetime of positive and memorable experiences," Meyer said. "Any achievements that might be associated with my years as provost and vice chancellor are attributed in part to three g roups: the deans of the four academic colleges, the staff members who report to me and the assistant chancellors. I thank them and I thank Chancellor George for their partnerships with me in advancing the best interests of our faculty, staff and students ."

Meyer started his career at UWSP in the School of Communicative Disorders , teaching from 1968 to 1975. H e served as head of the school and was director of clinical services until becoming associate dean of the College of Professional Studies in 1982.

Among his accomplishments are supporting development of a new minor in Native American studies , gaining approval of majors in health promotion, general studies and athletic training, support of technology in instruction, and investing in instructional software and technology training. He established, enhanced and expanded the Collaborative Degree Program.

UW-Stevens Point ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Alumni Association welcomes our Spring 2002 graduates to the ranks of UWSP alumni. To honor this occasion, members of the Student Alumni Association will present each new alum with the gift of a UWSP key chain. We hope this will serve as a reminder that, no matter where life may lead our graduates, they will always have a home at UWSP.

The Alumni Association serves to strengthen the ties between over 55,000 Pointer alumni and their university home. Our alumni are among this university's most important assets and collectively constitute a major force in shaping the reputation of our campus.

The association seeks to help alumni stay in touch with former classmates and friends who have graduated from UWSP to make their mark, professionally and personally, on the nation and the world. The association also provides a variety of services to alumni and friends of UWSP, including the Pointer ALUMNUS newspaper, alumni reunions , homecoming, alumni travel, alumni directories and other special events.

All graduates and anyone who has attended UWSP are automatic , lifetime members of the non-dues paying association. Support for the Alumni Association is provided in part by the UWSP Foundation, by proceeds from alumni endowment and gifts from alumni and friends.

All of our alumni share memories of their years at UWSP, and they in turn have contributed to the success of the campus. We urge you to continue to think of yourself as a vital participant in the future of alma mater. We always welcome your support, involvement and ideas.

Those interested in learning more about the UWSP Alumni Association and its Board of Directors are encouraged to contact the Alumni Association office at (715) 346-3811 or (877) 764-6801, or by e-mail at [email protected]. The UWSP Alumni Association website can be accessed at www.uwsp.edu/alumni/.
