There are three ways to study abroad at CU Denver:
Global Study: These are CU Denver faculty-led short-term programs. The Communication department has a
semester/year program in Beijing and short term program options. Earn CU Denver credit and grades. Individual
fees are set for each program. 2012 programs include Narratives of the New China Professor Hamilton Bean, and a
service learning program, Nobel Cause: Peace & Justice in Guatemala with Dr. E.J. Yoder.
Third-Party: Semester, year-long, and short-term options are available through third-party providers. You can
study on any third-party program approved by CU Denver and your academic advisor.
Direct Enrollment: this is when a student directly enrolls in a foreign university.
Funding your study abroad experience:
Studying abroad can be affordable. CU Denver students who study abroad still receive financial aid for their stud-
ies. In many cases students are awarded more financial aid when they go abroad. Additionally, there are many
scholarships and grants available. For more information, see the last page of this pamphlet, get a copy of our
“Funding Study Abroad” brochure and visit our website.
Communications
Study Abroad
“Successful communication is the key to thriving in the
21st century, where Karachi is just a phone call away, Bei-
jing is a fax away, Sao Paulo is sending you tweets, and
Mumbai is filling your in-box. In our Perpetually wired and
infinitely connected world of global markets, global politics,
and global culture, being able to communicate both within
and across multiple cultures will enable you to achieve your
goals. Studying abroad and taking international travel
classes is therefore a wonderful first step to becoming the
communication specialist who will thrive in the globalized
21st century. Launch the rest of your career now by experi-
encing globalization first-hand.”
~Professor Stephen Hartnett
