Meet the Teacher Night Thank you to all the parents who made the effort to attend both the general information session and the class teacher session last Tuesday evening. This was a great opportunity to gain information about the coming year and to meet your child’s teacher. If you were unable to attend please ensure you have received the information from your child’s class teacher. A copy of the general information slides has been sent home via email.

Greetings on the Green The weather was perfect to celebrate the annual Greetings on the Green on Friday night. It was wonderful to see so many families coming together to begin the school year. Thank you to all of our parent volunteers who organised this successful event, providing families with the sausage sizzle and gelato store, the disco for the children and to the Stage 3 students and teachers for the face painting, hair spraying and nail polish store.

Ocean Action Pod Today students from Kindergarten and Stage 3, have had the opportunity to participate in a variety of hands-on activities to develop an awareness of the effects pollution has on our beaches and oceans.

Clean Up GPS Day This year, Clean Up GPS Day will be held after lunch on Thursday 1 March to coincide with Clean Up Australia Day on Sunday 4 March. Students will need to bring in a pair of gardening gloves or plastic gloves and a garbage bag to school on the morning of the event. Each grade will have a designated area of the playground in which to pick up rubbish. Thank you for your support in helping to keep our school clean and tidy.

Stage 3 Canberra Excursion Next week students in Years 5 & 6 will be undertaking an educational tour of the national capital, Canberra. Students will be given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs over 3 days with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy. The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. Thank you to the Stage 3 teachers and Mr Hodgetts for joining me in accompanying the students.

P&C Meeting The first P&C meeting of the year will take place tomorrow evening at 7.30pm in the staff room. New members are welcome to join, or just come along to see what the P&C offers the school community. The focus of this meeting will be to finalise the 2018 events calendar and to gain feedback from the P&C members as to which aspects of school organisation can be showcased at the following meetings throughout the year (i.e.; budget, school procedures, NAPLAN results etc.).

Office Emergency contacts The school will be sending home Student Emergency Contact Detail Reports this week. Please check the information on your child's paperwork, make any corrections, sign and return to the class teacher as soon as possible. Please indicate on the form which email address the school is to use as a family email address. Separated families need to provide a family email address for each parent that child resides with. Student Resource Fees Next week the school will send home Student Resource Notes which will outline costs of resources, subscriptions (e.g. Mathletics and Reading Eggs) and some in school events that have been organised for the year. Payment via the school's website would be highly appreciated, however if you do pay by cheque, please make out one cheque for all students in the family. Payment can be made by instalments.

Zone Tennis Trials A number of our students attended the Ryde Zone Tennis trials this month, enjoying a great morning of competitive tennis. We would like to congratulate Julia who has been selected in the Ryde PSSA Team and will be competing at the Sydney North Trials in March. Good luck Julia!

Stewart House Clothing Appeal

Gladesville Public School is proud to support the annual Stewart house clothing appeal, with collection bags being sent home last week. Please take the time to clean out any old clothes that are in good condition. Once filled, please seal bag and place it near the school office. The last day for drop off will be Friday 9 March.

Every year Stewart House benefits financially from collections of clothing in schools. The Smith Family generously provides bags, undertakes the collection and pays Stewart House for each kilogram received. About $18,000 is raised each year from this collection.

Stewart House has been working in partnership with The Smith Family for more than 60 years. The recycling operation helps schools in NSW run clothing drives to collect good quality clothes and accessories for resale or export in Smith Family stores. School clothing drives are an important source of good quality new and near-new clothing, helping to keep their stock levels high.
