THE ORIGINSCometa Education and the School Oliver Twist wereboth born from the experience of Cometa and the factthat since 1987 it operates in the hospitality and edu-cation sector, helping children and young people.Cometa Education started its activity in 2003 in orderto give to young people a real opportunity forgrowth, both through education and training pathsand through the acquisition of appropriate skills fo-cused on the future goal of an inclusion into theworld of work.Since 2009, the school Oliver Twist opened its doors tothose who were looking for these opportunities.

. SCHOOL PROPOSITION

. A TEACHINGNo more classrooms but shops, or places where the study is combined with the practice, where students can learnfrom experience, where teachers become masters and where they teach entrepreneurship and artisan skills. It is aschool where research excellence is part of the teaching method, where learning happens through the school-workrelationship, with internships and exams directly in the companies. Cometa has modern workshops, where stu-dents learn English by studying History and Science (these lectures are taught in the English language).The courses of the School Oliver Twist fulfill the Italian education requirements and is open to children who havecompleted the Licenza media (Junior High), issuing qualifications (3 years) and professional degrees (4 years),with the possibility of completing the fifth year and also to have access to university and public competitions. Un-der the new legislation, qualifications can be acquired even during the Apprenticeship stage.

A METHODAt the Oliver Twist school, the attention is given to theindividual and his or her personal history.This concept is the guiding principle for the constructionof a personalized and tailored study program suited to theneeds and the specific training of each student; including,the active involvement of the family. The consistent pres-ence of a tutor in class is a constant reference for the stu-dents. A strong emphasis is given to the students’ studyorientation, made through constant re-motivation and anassessment of personal skills. The cultural study is pro-vided by workshops, meetings with professional workers,various field trips, and movies.

. A PLACEThe Oliver Twist school was designed according to themost modern principles of environmental sustainabi-lity. Modern and attractive, the school has a nice faci-lity and special attention and care is given also by thestudents, because the beauty and the consciousnessof beauty are an integral part of the school’s pedago-gical approach.Its excellence is based also on its efficiency: the struc-ture is certified by ISO 9001:2008 (quality) and ISO14001 (environment).

Each classroom is equipped with interac-tive whiteboard multimedia and each stu-dent is provided with a tablet. Lectures,tutorials, study sessions and tests are doneonline. It is a school that speaks the lan-guage of the new generations; of the so-called “digital natives”.
