COMENIUS PROJECT«WORDS DON’T COME EASY»

FIRST MEETING IN BELGIUM

20-24th NOVEMBER 2013

On 20th November 2013, we departed from Antalya Airport to go to Belgium, Brussels. We reached to Sint Niklaas from Brussels after one hour journey by train.

On 21st November 2013, we had a city tour guided by the students in the morning. The city took its name from St Nicholas. The people living in the city believe that St Nicholas was born in Demre, Antalya but then he moved to Sint Niklaas, so St Niklaas is the symbol of the city.

After the city tour, we were hosted by the Major of the city.

With the opening ceremony we started our Project Meeting in the Broeders Handel School.

We organised a regional market and we introduced our country, city and school with the local products.

On 22nd November, the Turkish students participated into a Gym class with the Belgian (Flemish) students and the teachers had Project meetings.

We visited “The Persgroup” which is the biggest printing center of the region and got informed.

We visited “Thomas More Advertising and Communication Faculty” in Mechelen. The group learnt how they produce TV and radio programmes and also a lecture was given to the students and the teachers about “using social media”. One of our frieds Atahan Yıldırım was interviewed by the students of the university and they published this interview on their website and their magazine. (http://www.21bis.be)

For “Communicating with Stars”we climbed up the tower of the church which has 550 steps in Mechelen.

On 23rd November, the students had a workshop related with making musical instruments in the morning.

We had a trip to Antwerpen, one of the biggest city of Belgium.

We visited the museum of “Plantin Moretus”, accepted as a World heritage by UNESCO. It is an important museum as it is the first printing press in Europe. We saw the first printing Bible in that museum.

On the last evening we had a dinner at school a farewell party. We had a great fun there!
