Cultural events in our areaCultural events in our area
We live in a rural area and annual fairs are a tradition of our district.
Often enough the fair is in conjunction with a countryside festival.
• A fair (archaic: fayre) is a gathering of people to display or trade goods, to parade or display animals and machinery.
• It is normally temporary but it may last also a week.
Fairs are often held in conjunction with a significant event, such as the anniversary of a local historical, religious,
seasonal event or with a local holiday
Religious event on 15 of August near Mantua
“Virgin Mary Painters contest”
Seasonal event on 15 of June in Viadana
“Melon day”
Some trade fairs are important regular business events either where products are traded between businesspeople or where products are showcased to consumers.
Flea markets, auto shows, funfair entertainment (roundabouts), food and drinks stalls are often incorporated into a fair.
For example in agricultural districts where they present opportunities to display and demonstrate the latest machinery on the market to farmers.
The fair of Gonzaga1-10 September
The annual fair of Gonzaga came to life in 1448 when “Francesco Gonzaga” escaped death after he fell off his horse.
Prior to the birth of the Gonzaga fair, however, there was a sport event (Palio) that brought jugglers, beggars, musicians.
It’s a national event for farmers from all over in Italy.
Annual fair of Casalmaggiore1- 7 November
This event dates back to the XXth century, it was an occasion to practice in commercial activities, to pass down some traditions to the younger generation and also an opportunity to show solidarity. It lasts a week, usually in November, every year.
The agricultural fair is an event which has been going on for decades, a portrayal of rich Italian culture that has been passed down from generation to generation.
It is organised by the Municipality of the town. The event is characterised by the presence of entertainers and traders
who display a whole range of products: clothes, bags, shoes, cars, agricultural machinery and a variety traditional food and other
alimentary products at low prices.
