TED (2012)FILM POSTER TRAILER
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fbo_pQvU7M)
The trailer of ‘Ted’ features various clips from
the film used to entertain and please a
particular type of audience, most generally
those that enjoy surreal humour, as the teddy
bear participates in a lavish lifestyle of
partying, promiscuity and drugs. The majority
of the trailer features this type of humour
however the film itself is described as a
‘comedy-drama’ thus meaning the movie
contains some relationship story-line material
such as John’s relationship with his girlfriend
which struggles under the strength and
intensity of his ‘bromance’ with Ted, which
again adds some comedic value to its over the
top gags. Furthermore, the sound used for the
trailer is an upbeat score, which evidently fits
with the typical conventions of a comedy trailer
as its purpose is to uplift whilst amusing with
the clips used.
This film poster for the
comedy 2012 film Ted
follows the typical
conventions of a comedy
poster, as the image itself
shows a teddy-bear holding
beer at a urinal which
appears ridiculous to the
point of hilarity for viewers.
In addition to this the use of
text which informs the
creator of Ted to be the
same of hit US comedy
family guy, this further
entices audiences who
enjoy border-line
controversial humour,
highlighted by the fact that
the teddy bear appears to
be drinking alcohol.
DUMB AND DUMBER (1994)
FILM POSTER TRAILER(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q0zGXZa2
dG0)
The trailer of the film features various inserts
describing the definitions of terms such as
‘Idiot’ and ‘Dumb’ which then follows by a clip
from the movie of the characters in various
debacles which show their stupidity such as
Harry not releasing the name of the woman
they are searching for his written upon her
suitcase. The use of music that corresponds
with these clips sounds regal and formal whilst
a well spoken narrator provides definitions,
again comically contrasting with the actions of
the two characters which again amuses
audiences.
This film poster for the comedy
1994 film Dumb and Dumber is a
light-hearted simple follows the
typical conventions of a comedy
poster, as the image itself is
extremely simplistic and just shows
Harry and Lloyd sitting on a bench.
The use of the sub-title of the
crossed out spellings of the films
release date is extremely effective
and amuses the reader as it
appears the ‘Dumb’ writer gave up
on trying to spell the simple spelling
of ‘Christmas.’ Additionally the main
title of ‘Dumb Happens’ does not
appear grammatically correct
highlighting the stupidity of the
friends which as an audience we
find laughable. The pose and prop
use itself also parodies that of the
theatrical poster Forrest Gump
adding to its mocking and playful
notion, which entices audiences
intrigued by the comedy drama.
HORRIBLE BOSSES (2011)
FILM POSTERThis poster is for the 2011 black
comedy Horrible Bosses. Instantly,
the poster catches the eye due to its
bright and bold colour scheme
which contrasts well with the fairly
simplistic use of portrait profiles of
the frustrated employees who are
planning to kill their unruly bosses.
The use of insulting titles to
describe each of the bosses, along
with the tagline of ‘take out the boss’
adds a dark comedic value as a lot
of audiences could probably be able
to relate with the feeling of distain
towards a boss at some part in their
career. The poster conforms to
some of the typical genre
conventions seen within the Ted and
Dumber and Dumber posters, as all
of the pieces feature clear, simplistic
images with large basic fonts, as
comedy films themselves often to
not have as much extravagant
content compared to other genres
such as action.
TRAILERAfter the usual production credits, the
trailer launches between the fast-paced
transitions different story-lines of the
three males and their mistreatment at the
hands of their bosses.
The trailer conforms to the conventions of
a typical dark comedy, as a request of
one of the bosses is for the employee to
'trim the fat' as he tried to pressurise him
into firing the over-weight employees.
This type of shocking and controversial
humour frequently featured within the
trailer’s inserts would attract its target
audience of those amused by dark
comedy. The fast transitions effectively
convey the story line of one boss, and
then cut to the next, which follows the
third. Standard camera shots are used as
typically the type of camera angles in
comedies are basic and ordinary in order
to keep the media easy to watch and to
avoid disjointing the audience. There is a
use of non diegetic sound through a
bouncy rock score, which maintains the
upbeat tone despite the fact the story-line
consists of them trying to complete a
series of murders and deals with issues
such as sexual harassment, which
distracts from the larger issues and
keeps the audience amused.
